Hi folks,

I have been staying in SoKo for the past 2 years and have been working here as a Technical writer.

Here is my doubt:

My previous employer had applied for my E7 and i had succesfully got the visa without any issues since they did all the heavy lifting and paperwork( I have more than 5 years experience in the same filed outside and so meet the criterion).

I have recently changed my job and my new employer is a small company which has no experience of handling foreigners and their visa issues. They asked me to procure a E7 visa by myself and they would provide all the necessary company documentation ( which is ok even by immigration but they only want to know the category to file under).

This isnt a issue for me but when i look into the category to apply under, im unable to find any Technical Writer/Editor in any of the fields. My previous employer isnt very approachable and so generally do not bother replying to my queries and so im unsure under what category did they apply under.

Could any kind soul please let me know which category does editor/Tech writer ( for non-educational role) fall under so that i could apply for the same?

Technically, there isn't one. I unfortunately don't know the category/categories that the companies use to secure an E-7 for this type of work. It may very well fall under the translator category but don't take my word for it, I've never directly applied and don't know how my old employers went about the process.

It would really go a long way if the new employer were to be a little more hands-on about the process, even if it means just ringing up immigration on their own and asking this very same question, or even check some Naver cafes for more information. Anyway, it's helpful to have them in your corner so you might want to gently encourage them to be a bit more proactive, maybe tell them it's not as straightforward as you expected and you need language-related help or something.

You can certainly try to check with immigration directly on your own, but I suspect they will keep giving you the run-around like it sounds they've done already. I seriously doubt that they want to describe to you in detail how to utilize this E-7 "loophole".

Good luck with it.
