Hello, I take two medicines on a lifelong basis. My doctor has prescribed me a 90 day supply of each with three refills. Rather than worry about seeing a Korean doctor, getting prescriptions filled, inferior meds, etc... I want to just pay for a years worth of each med here at home and bring them in to Korea. I have the prescriptions for both covering the year. The meds are levothyroxin and lithium.

I have had some travelers tell me that it would be fine as a resident staying for a year to bring that much.

What are your thoughts on bringing a year supply with me?

Thank You for the feedback.

Your ethnocentrism is showing.

$5 gets you a doctor's visit.

Meds here are the same as you would get at home. Korea is a developed country (even though some on here would say otherwise).

Traveling with more than a 3-month supply of prescription meds (even just thyroid hormones) can cause problems (importing and transporting) during international travel.

Meds for depression or manic episodes are another issue (as is the reason for taking them).

Are you sure you need thyroxine? Do you have an underactive thyroid or something? What's your TSH level? And be careful about lithium as they ask you for the visa if you have any mental problems. Don't tell them if you don't have to.

Thank You both for your replies. I will take a three month supply and get the rest in the developed 1st world nation of South Korea. :0)

One more question if I have not worn out your question answering good will. Is it best to put the prescriptions with relevant paper work in my checked bags or carry on?

Thanks again for your help.

I would put it in my carry on bags, unless it's a liquid. You never know what baggage handles are going to swipe.

I would also add, too, based on my experiences in Singapore and points beyond, most doctors in Asia speak English to some degree. It's very hard to study medicine without English skills. So don't panic that you won't be able to find an English speaking doctor.

If he tells you, are you going to give him some sound medical advice, lol?
