|
|
I have 2 boys ages 5 and 7. I am 'Western' and my husband is Korean. My kids were born here and look very much Korean.
We moved to the states for 2 years and are back in Korea for now.
We live on the 2nd floor of the apartment and just this instant, 6 elementary kids were outside our window yelling " Foreigners are shit !! " in Korean.
I ran outside and found the culprit and they ratted each other out. I know where they live and now need advice...what should I do?
This is clearly unacceptable behavior. I want a record of this. As is...last week, the same bunch of kids brought my kids to the top of the 15th floor roof last week. 2 days ago I hear the kids telling them "JUMP! JUMP! from the highest parts of the playground (like off the slide and off the monkey bars.)
I told my husband to call the police and talk to their teachers and parents. Is Korean society REALLY this intolerant? This is hate speech-not cute kid funny talk. Today this...tomorrow what???
Mind you, 5 years ago I sued a Korean woman for libel and won. She put a bunch of crap on the internet about me with over 5 thousand members. It was the hottest post in the internet cafe until my Korean friend told me what was going on. They posted my name, car I drive, where I live, work..everything! Other hostile stuff has been happening and I shudder to think there is another blog with all of the neighborhood ajumma ganging up and talking crap.
What can we do ?

I don't imagine they distinguish between a 'hate crime' and a normal kind of crime here but you probably did right to call the police. Hopefully they can scare the kids into leaving you alone. What neighbourhood do you live in by the way, is it a rough one? |

Korean media fans the flames of hate. Kids hear their parents complaining (and/or maybe even see/ overhear news themselves). Young Korean kids hate Japanese kids. They get it from their parents obviously. It's sad.
Look at this article released yesterday: http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2016/06/116_206299.html
Quote: |
Police are cracking down on crimes foreigners commit following a steady rise in offenses over the past few years. |
Notice how the article fails to mention how the number of foreigners (mostly Chinese) is also increasing (greatly) year after year. Proportionally, is the crime rate going up or down? That's what matters.
Quote: |
According to the Korean National Police Agency, crimes committed by foreigners have increased almost 5,000 a year since 2012, jumping from 22,914 to 28,456 in 2014. Violent crimes also have increased, from 10,483 in 2012 to 11,403 in 2014. |
The math on this is incorrect. 28,456 minus 22,914 is 5,542. Divided by two is 2,771.
2,7771 is not "almost 5,000". >_<) What a joke the Korea Times is. Do Koreans not realize their media is crap? Do Koreans just mindlessly accept everything they are told? "White rice is healthy." "Soju is healthy." "Marijuana is a vile, dangerous substance." "Korea's air pollution comes from China." "Eating samgyupsal protects the body from yellow dust." "Blood type determines personality." "Running a fan at night while you sleep can kill you." "K-pop is popular in America." |

야!!!! 가라!!!! Best u can do for little sh1th3ads in your area. If that doesn't work and/or their mommy/daddy comes, then u, or i would hope ur husband, can yell/tell them about 18 chicken d1ck$, yes? Sounds like ur kids dont want or need friends in that place. Sometimes solitude is better; much better. |

this makes me really mad, I have a daughter who is 3.5 right now and Im just waiting to explode on kids harming her because she is mixed. You have to stop this behavior before it gets out of hand, OP. kids commit suicide over bullying, don't let it be your kid. |

Well, you need to first make sure what kind of razing is going on. Boys do say awful things to each other and you need to differentiate between bullying and the normal hard time boys always give each other as friends. 5 and 7 is a little young for that so I'd be pretty worried about that. Are these elementary kids classmates of your kids or are they an older gang of kids that are pure bullies?
Definately right to call the cops about the rooftop nonsense. There's no reason for any of that.
This isn't going to make you feel better, but kids do tease each other about anything and everything and they don't understand the full impact of what they're saying. I got regular racial taunts until about the 4th grade. But a good 90% of those weren't meant with any true malice regarding race. It was just some insult. Kids insult someone over what shoes they're wearing or what color their lunchbox is. The thing though was this was with my peers and friends. If its older kids doing it to your kids, then that's a whole 'nother story.
Also, make sure your kids aren't scared to throw down and know how to also.
The odds of those kids having had parents who 1) Read an article in the Korea Times 2) Remembered that article 3) Ranted about that article are exceedingly low. About the same as foreigner crime rates.
Contrary to popular opinion on Dave's, the Korean media isn't relentless in negative stories about foreigners. For every 1 negative one, there's like 9 positive ones. We seek them out, just like I seek out Korea bashing threads on Dave's. |

That article has a lot of language that is cloudy. Just what does it mean to 'target' someone? Sounds like gang stalking to me. |

Steelrails, you just admitted to everyone in that last sentence what everyone already knew about you. But, it's first time you came clean about it. Well done. |

Grow a pair as well as some thicker skin. Then have your hubby teach them how to properly break a nose with a well placed punch. |

Indeed.
"Hate Speech"? Too much butthurt around here....
Be and adult and talk to the parents, rather than hiding behind the threat of calling the police....seriously. |

Film it ALL on ur "smart"phone and/or make sure the cctv in the complex is running. These days, it actually seems like Korean courts are looking for proof of some sort...strangely. You need witnesses(most still lie, or refuse to say anything - same as home, maybe?), video, or audio recording. Don't be scared to pull your phone out and start recording. It CAN make a difference. Make sure you do it in a safe way - ie. don't put yourself in an unsafe position. Usually, Koreans are pretty smart and supportive, but, they sure can attack together if they think it's needed. |

Or before you go through all of that...talk to the parents. |

Record it and upload it onto YouTube. Shaming the parents, with irrefutable evidence, will be the most effective way to deal with the problem, in my opinion. |
