|
|
I am having to leave the private middle school, where I have been working. I have already written a review of that place-the main issue being a totally chaotic schedule.
I went to the Immigration Office the other day. I wanted to tell them that my employment has ended and to switch to a D-10. I came with my release letter, a certificate-in Korean-giving proof of employment- and other stuff. I showed the Korean version of my letter of release to the officials, and it carried no weight with them at all. Although the final date on the release letter is tomorrow, the school needs to tell them that I am leaving. Before that happens, I cannot apply for a D-10. The school is still on vacation, so I may have to wait until Monday.
I have some questions.
1. If I want to cancel my current visa(which would have ended in February), do I need to go to the office IN PERSON with my former co-teacher? I am not planning to stay in this province.
2. Would I get a D-10 if the school has fired me?
3. How much money do I need to have in the bank in order to apply for a D-10? |

It sounds like your local immigration office is making it up as he goes.
1) Not usually, especially if your LOR has the school's stamp on it.
2) Yes. The reason for unemployment is not relevant unless it was due to criminal activity.
3) Enough to support yourself for as long as you will be unemployed or until your departure. I have never known proof of funds to be a requirement.

The letter of release does indeed have the school's official stamp on it. But I also planned to move to a different province, and look for another job. I was told the school needed to cancel the old visa before I could start a new job.
Well, now I have found a new job, in Gyeonggi-do. It's literally just outside of Seoul, and I feel a lot better. I move into my new apartment on Monday. |

The letter of release has the school's stamp, and the school's name and address on it. It isn't on headed paper, and it does not have the school's business number.
I am slightly worried now that there might be something I have missed, so I am going to call the immigration helpline. I should have done so already. From what you are saying, it seems that I don't have to go back to the other province in person. |
