ST. LOUIS — Phyllis Schlafly, the outspoken conservative activist who helped defeat the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s and founded the Eagle Forum political group, has died. She was 92.

Schlafly died Monday afternoon of cancer at her home in St. Louis, her son John Schlafly said.

I remember her being around in the late 70s/early 80s, and associated with Falwell and his crowd. And of course that she was involved in defeating the ERA.

But I have to say, I think my clearest recollection is a joke from Mad Magazine, in an article featuring nasty one-liners about famous people. Something along the lines of the reason she hated feminism was because Ms. Magazine refused to publish her recipe for peach cobbler.
