Brace yourselves. This review is going to be overwhelmingly negative. I'll start with a positive.
I worked for POLY school Ansan for less than a year. During that time, I was largely paid on time. The director was quite sweet, and often tried to be accomodating. And the kids were WONDERFUL!
Now for the negative:
The hours will kill you. For 2.2 million won, we worked 10-11 hours a day, sometimes more. It's virtually impossible to do anything else with your time during the week. If you have any hobbies or other interests, you'd better put them on hold for 5 days a week.
The money was lousy, too. After converting the salary into USD and dividing by the hours worked, we earned roughly minimum wage in some states.
I had to leave my contract early, because a grad school made me a terrific offer. I gave nearly 2 months notice -- twice what I was required by contract. The moment I gave notice, my director HATED me.
After I left Korea, I discovered that my former director had decided to withhold my wages, and arbitrarily garnish them. At the end, she stole over a million won from my final payment.
Lastly, Ansan is the armpit of Korea. And the apartments for POLY school are in the armpit of Ansan. It was the worst place I've ever lived.
In short, POLY school Ansan is a nightmare. One that will likely end up costing you. |
What's negative? You signed a contract for 2.2. Monday-Friday are working days. Tired is the norm when one works.
Would you be happy if the director had given you termination notice because another teacher had made the director a better offer?
Wages were garnished to cover costs of early leaving.
Kids these days. |

Doing illegal things is okay? You aren't legally allowed to garnish wages to cover costs of leaving early.
He should have never signed a poly contract at 2.2. Starting pay is 2.7 a month at poly, because they work you long hours. Signing for 2.2 is foolish. |
