|
|
Hello all. I worked in South Korea from 2009 to 2011. I have a degree (BS) and so it was never an issue. My brother is interested in doing ESL for a year or two as well. He just turned 23 and finished serving in the Marines (he has taught classes, and actually is very proficient in languages).
I think Korea is off the list due to the lack of a 4-year degree. Is it? We've done some searching and have found that Thailand, the Czech Republic, the Soviet Union and Spain don't require degrees? Any suggestions?
I had a great experience in Korea. A year or two abroad for my brother before he starts university would probably do him some good. Please, any suggestions are welcome! |

Update...
A degree IS needed for LEGAL work as a teacher in ALL of the ASEAN block.
That said, borderline illegal work abounds with people working on a "business visa" in Cambodia, Myanmar (visa run needed every 70 days), Laos. It is far more difficult to work in Thighland without a degree now due to crackdowns by immigration and the military government.
I can't speak about eastern Europe.
Work in Korea is possible (TaLK program) once he has an associate degree or 2 years completed toward a BA.

None of my business, but speaking as a vet, I'd say he'd be better served by getting into a university and knocking out the degree as quickly as possible. The longer you put off starting, the greater the chances of not getting it done. Asia and ESL will still be ready and waiting for him after he's credentialed. |
