It's certainly a toxic choice. Law enforcement needs to be held to the highest standards of legal compliance, and Sheriff Arpaio seems to embody corrupt and lawless police behavior. Even the most favorable possible interpretation of the Presidents action here leaves him pardoning a sheriff who violated countless people's civil liberties and showed active disregard for the law he swore to uphold, and it only gets uglier from there.
One thing I'd be worried about is that many people may look at this issue, remember Sheriff Arapio as "that sheriff who was tough on immigration," and approve. Yet respect for immigration law can only be founded for respect upon law more generally, and the Arpaio consciously violated that law to the detriment of many citizens, so such parties approving of his pardon would be contradicting themselves. |

Well, the Satan ad probably played well to Trump's uneducated evangelical base , and "Killary Rotten Clinton" probably appealed to the psycho-killer component of his base, and the "Buff Bernie" ads probably were titillating to closet gay GOP right-wingers... |

Well, Assange certainly conspired with Trump.

For Brown, and others who have been critical of Assange for using the platform of WikiLeaks to fight his own political and personal battles, his secret communication with the Trump campaign was damning because it revealed that he had been functioning more like a freelance political operative, doling out strategy and advice, than a journalist interested in obtaining and publishing information, concerned only with its accuracy. |

From a (scholarly) Biblical perspective, I think a case can be made that Trump is the Antichrist, described as "the king of the North", "the lawless one", and "the man of sin" ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antichrist |

I like it, but you are giving far too much credit to Trump. In reality, he is just an incompetent, stupid, bigoted ignoramus. That's all he is, nothing more. |

Cherry picking a few leftist stories; aka, FAKE NEWS ^^
It's the same as the FAKE NEWS that Republicans wouldn't support Trump.
Most Republicans know this tax cut will benefit the middle class. It will benefit my friends.
I'm still laughing at the sore losers!

An indictment of Jared Kushner appears imminent.
https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/12/bannon-for-president-trump-kushner-ivanka
Steve Bannon wrote: |
“The railhead of all bad decisions is the same railhead: Javanka.”
“He’s taking meetings with Russians to get additional stuff. This tells you everything about Jared,”
“They were looking for the picture of Hillary Clinton taking the bag of cash from Putin. That’s his maturity level.” |
It will be slightly more difficult for the MAGA-heads to array the old #FAKENEWS against Steve Bannon.

Quote: |
All of these anti-Mueller moves fit a strategy of trying to publicly browbeat the special counsel to make him leery of bringing forward a major indictment. Mueller now knows, if he did not already, that indicting Kushner is likely to bring the full force of America’s conservative movement against him.
But I doubt that Mueller, with his long record in top jobs (he was the FBI director on 9/11), would be intimidated by Trump’s team. So I see this goal as one that is also unlikely to succeed.
. . .
Trying to turn Republicans against the investigation — American politics was polarized during the 1970s and 1990s, but there is evidence that the polarization and division between the two parties has grown much larger. So if Trump and his allies are aiming to get the vast majority of Republicans to oppose Mueller’s probe and question its findings, that seems to be a realistic goal.
There is already evidence that anti-Mueller sentiment is taking hold in the GOP. A Pew Research Center poll conducted in late November and early December (so before the latest round of Mueller-bashing) found that about half of Republicans doubted the special counsel would conduct a fair investigation, compared to about a third of the public overall. (Quinnipiac also showed about half of Republicans with concerns about the fairness of the Mueller probe.)
If this strategy succeeds, it could yield huge dividends, since ultimately the impeachment and removal from office of a president is a political process. In the short term, redefining support for Mueller as a liberal stance could prevent congressional Republicans eager to please their bases from defending or protecting the special counsel. So far, various bills to keep Trump from firing Mueller have gone nowhere in Congress, suggesting that this type of legislation has already been successfully painted as anti-Republican. In the long term, if Democrats gain control of the House, Senate, or both, Mueller and his investigation being viewed as anti-Republican could literally save Trump’s presidency. If few or no Republicans support a push for Trump’s removal, he is likely to remain in office even if he is impeached, since removal requires 67 senators and it’s unlikely Democrats will have that large a majority in the near future. |
It seems more unlikely that Trump will be impeached and then convicted over anything than that he will hang on while his base forces one-third of the Senate plus one or more to find him not culpable of all wrongdoing. |

The tax "reform" is basically a f-you to upper middle class people in CA, NY, NJ, and some other high income/high tax states. The GOP is going to get killed in those states next November. There are currently 14 GOP congressmen and women from California. I suspect that will drop down to perhaps 3 or 4 (Nunes, McCarthy, and maybe a couple more). Those in Orange County and San Diego- adios. At least some in NY and NJ had sense to vote against the bill, but I bet a few will also be adios in 2018. I mean why the hell vote for the GOP if they raise taxes on you?? They can't get anything else done!
Dems have a better shot at taking over the House next year than the Senate imo. |
