I have a friend who is wanting to come visit during Jan. and I was wondering if anyone has ever run into any problems with letting friends stay at their place that is paid for by the school? Do you have to ask your directors permission or any of that kinda jazz? Let me know what you think |

You don't need to ask your director. It is your place. If you don't live alone, you should ask your flatmates. |

My director couldn't care less if I have someone over at my apartment, since my director lives across town. When he used to live next to me he used to care about when I took the garbage out.
I think whether a director cares depends on the situation. Whether a director should care is another matter. |

Don't worry about it! Your director won't care. S/he won't know anyway...even if they did care. |

Listen to Harpeau Boy. No one will notice or care.
I wish someone was coming to visit me from home. It would be so much fun to show them around and let the Koreans be the circus animals for a change (hhahahaha). No one wants to travel that far though. |

depends if yr director is a decent person....
i had a director a few years ago who tried to get me to pay half the rent coz i had someone iiving with me who did not work for her... she had a valid point in one respect in that m,y housemate worked for another school, which did not contribute to the rent. however i pointed out to mer that when i first accepted the job i had told her about my intended flatmate and she had agreed then.
since that time, one several occasions, and with several different employers, my sons have stayed with me for months at a time no problem.

Two Schools of Thought. Just Do it. Do not ask permission! Anyways easier to get forgiveness then permission. Many schools will not care. They have better things to do then to knock on your door to check if people are living with you. Just make sure the person living with you and yourself included do nothing to call the schools attention - be noisy, fighting, damage property.
Then there is the flip side you do not do it. You ask for permission and you get a refusal or told to pay up. Check your contract and any guidelines or school rules. But I have heard and seen of stupid unreasonable situtations.
A girl had a boy friend who lived at her apartment but he worked at another school. The headmistress for the school asked her to contribute to the apartment or have the boyfriend move out.
Another with the a schools morality clause. A women who taught at a University and lived in a Uni owned apartment building had a clause that no me could stay over night in her school. Men could have all the women they wanted (including students) but she no men. A one week her father came to visit. She was told outright he could not stay!
Another was a couple worked at a school. They loved the women fired the husband. And they asked the Husband to move out of the Apartment. Duh people! The wife soon quite after that!
Anyways my advice keep it to yourself.

Your place your rules...if they try to pull any crap on you tell them to stuff it...you can have anyone over to your place anytime you want and they cant legally do crap about it....unless you are doing something illegal
I had a rather nasty fight with the hogwan about vacation time...they told me I had to find a replacement teacher...the replacement teacher would have to stay in my apartment I told them my apartment is exactly that....MY APARTMENT. They backed down pretty quick. |

Telling the boss can have one advantage, if the boss is half decent, they will have to put on a show of Korean hospitality. Particularly if it's a family member. With all my limited experience with teachers and knowing other teachers, there have never been any problems. |
