So I'm driving my motorcycle near Carrefor in bundang yesterday late morning. The police had surrounded the area, and were directing traffic and doing who knows what else. One of them starts whistling in my general direction, however I didn't turn around to look and just ignored him. I pulled my bike up onto the sidewalk to park next to the building, as I and several other scooters always do. That's when I see in a reflection in the window that he's coming toward me. I decided to start walking away, acting like I never saw him. I kept walking until the entrance of the store, helmet on, and walked inside. At that point, he turned around and ran back to his post on the street, but not before checking for the plate on my bike. None.... don't have it attached! Maybe that's why he was wanting to talk to me... haha.
Anyway, I watched this through the mirrored window, and as soon as he walked around the corner to the street, I went out and pushed my bike down the street and got out of there.
I've never out-walked a cop before. Must not have been too important. |

Ulsan has a few rotaries, and some days there are clusters of policemen strategically placed about the circle to enforce proper positioning in the lanes in that circular mayhem. It was the only time I've been pulled over for some driving infraction. Usually police ignore motorbikes. He was adamant and waving me over blowing on his whistle. I asked why and he was still irate and a passerby translated that motorbikes are, in Korea, to drive in the outside lane only. Which doesn't apply if you are exiting the rotary intending to turn left at the intersection coming up on the chosen off chute.
It's been raining alot lately and to get their quota of daily tickets a cluster of traffic policemen were hiding behind the pillars of the highway overhead at a pedestrian crossing ticketing people who walked against the light. This is around the afforementioned rotary where cars are targeted when the cops are out in the open. I've seen people arguing their case but there are two or three policemen standing firm. There's no way anyone is in the right place on those rotaries, and they know it. |

I can usually talk myself out of a ticket ...as long as my wife isn't in the car. |

Lazy cop could have easily caught you.
You're lucky.
Next time, stay in the Itaewon subway station. |
