In your experience is this a likely scenario:

Boss, I'm not going to be flying home at the end of my contract, I'll be going elsewhere. Can I have the value of the ticket in cash please.

This will be my situation as well at the end of this contract.

I think i might tell him i great deal on a ticket and just give me the money and I'll book it. So he gives me the money thinking I'm going back to Australia and just put it down on a ticket to Thailand.

I'm interested in past experiences when dealing with this as well.

It seems to vary from school to school. My school never had a problem with it. In fact, they prefered just giving the cash value to teachers so they didn't have the headache of actually booking and buying a ticket for them.

our school has also never had a problem with us going somewhere else. i've even noticed they'll even pay a bit more and send us where we want to go. they won't give us cash though....something about them needing invoices for accounting purposes.

They should go for it.

Make it good for them. Let them give you 75% cash value for the ticket they would have bought. This is what I did.

I was prepared to make them pay for a ticket I wouldn't use, though.

my school bought a return flight; i've decided not to head straight home, so i'm going to take a hit on the ticket.
