hey all,

before i start, please no preachers about doing privates please.

Ive just had 2 privates cancel for a month as signs are up in their apartment buildings, claiming a government crackdown on private teachings are in place. aperently, its a 20 mil fine for the family, and a 5 mill fine for us. im glad they didnt want to take a chance, dont blame them really. Hanbit apt, and Expo apt in daejeon are some apartments i know for sure have the signs up, others i expect have the same. so just a waring to all, be extra careful this month. cheers guys

I agree...not gonna deter me. Anyway, why would the gov put up signs? Gotta be the greedy hogwan owners or a tweaked unemploied college grad!

Want to have some of your own fun?

Put up your own sign in Korean stating that a number of local hagwons are under investigation for illegal tax practices, and that according to recent changes in the law, families found on the school list as sending their children to these hagwons will have to make up the back tax pay or be fined.

Devious!

Hey has anyone out there ever waged a flyer war against a school that treated them badly, took their pay or fired them?

I considered it when I was having problems.

I'm not just talking about posting here. I am talking about having it translated into Korean and having it distributed (by an unknown friend of course) in an indirect way to the parents of your hagwon. About the quality or lack thereof of the school overall.

Hey this country thrives on rumours, isn't it obvious?

Definantly sounds like one of the nearby hagwons is trying to get extra students by putting out these bogus notices.

I don't think immigration here is organized enough to use a photocopier Very Happy

I have been here in Taejon (too damn lazy to change the spelling!) since 1996 and this is about the 4th time I have seen these signs. Immigration is behind them and they are simply to scare people,. The clerk at our immigration office said that they are effective in getting parents to call in against FORMER private teachers- you know what I mean. Shocked

BTW, government workers are NOT allowed to have another job or business on the side. He could lose his job if anyone found out that a government worker is also a hagwan director.

Why don't you put up some signs saying that the Ministry of Labour is cracking down on government workers with second jobs! Twisted Evil
