As an offshoot of the "About Racism in Korea" thread, I'd like to pose a question: Do you think the "racism" we experience could be more attributable to national pride rather than genuine racism? I do not believe most Koreans are racist, but I do believe they are prideful of their nationality. Racism and national pride are distiguishable by definition only - the forms they take are often the same. Perhaps it's not hate but pride which fuels what looks like racist behavior and spawns racist-like comments. I look forward to your comments.

Racism does not have to take the form of hate. The pride you speak of is so intimately tied up with racism that this is a semantic proposition that will lead nowhere. Better get into the thread that has some meat on it's bones if you want to grapple with this issue. |
