i was out drinking with a group when a Korean lady slapped my leg and told me that in Korea it is very impolite. It is a lifelong habit that I am not conscious of, many people seem to have the same habit. What is wrong with it? |

I've never heard of if being considered impolite but I think most people anywhere find it a bit unnerving.
If you do a search on "shaky-leg syndrome" or "restless leg syndrome" you'll see it discussed as a medical problem -- a movement disorder. Recent research links it to a vitamin B12 deficiency. |

Yeah, they hate that here. Parents really get on kids for doing it.
There is some saying that people who do it have a mental disease. No joke.. they believe that. |

My grandma used to tell me not to shake my legs because it's supposed to bring bad luck. Another Korean superstition about bringing bad luck is whistling at night.
I hope that helps! |

a nice thing about having children is when they're babies and you put the sweet darlin on your knee; nobody's the wiser. |

OMG, my name is Harin and I have a Jimmy Leg.
I shake it (never both!) when I feel nervous or bored. It comforts me. |

Because it's annoying as hell to sit there and have some person shaking their leg, you see it as this pathetic rhythmic thing that catches your attention, and if you're sitting on the same object (like on the subway seats) you feel it and it's even more annoying. It's only second to these idiots who snap their gum while chewing like a cow |

I'm a chronic shaker. Mum always threatens to open up a can of trouble on me if I don't stop.
I still do it .. :)

i just asked my husband (Korean) why you got yelled at by teh older lady. he said it is considered bad luck to shake your leg and also it is the KOrean equivalent to not shutting your mouth while you eat in the USA - just bad manners and it bothers people. For the record, my husband used to get yelled at by his dad for shaking his leg too.. |

Let me get this straight........It is bad to shake your leg, but it is not BAD TO.......
vomit in public
urinate in public (at least if you are a man or child)
spit in public
pick your nose in public
beat up you wife or girlfriend in public
You know I am all for cultural sensitivity.......but where does it end.
Keep shaking your leg.
