Would you sign a contract with this clause?

"Overnight stays by guests of the opposite gender, unrelated to the residents, in housing provided by XXXXis prohibited and failure to comply will be grounds for dismissal."

Would you abide by the clause?

We are adults here, right?

Is it a religious school? Some of them have those funny morality clauses.

Shocked

Don't even bother negotiating. Just reject them now.

You asked two questions, would you sign, and would you abide by the clause ...

I'd never get to asking the second question cause I'd never sign. There are plenty of jobs around and this is not typical, keep hunting ...

I wonder what would happen if I walked outta my place one day with a girl...

Given my location being in a room attached to the back of my hagwon and right next to the elementary school, with all the moms walking around all the time...

I have a funny story:

Back in the day, when I was but a wee Sparkles and had only been in Korea for about 6 months, I had a lovely little girliefriend who would later come to be known and adored by all as Wifey. I met Girliefriend when I was working at a hagwon in Hongdae. She was the secretary. The first day I stepped foot in place, I was mesmerized by her beauty.

She left the school a month into my contract, but we kept in touch. We dated on the weekends and sometimes saw each other on weeknights. On those occasions she would spend the night. I shared a decent-sized apartment with two other teachers from my school. They didn't mind (the teachers; at this point the school didn't know what was up), at least not at first, anyway; but they were women, and as sure as the sun will rise in the east, women will find some reason or other to hate each other. Things between Girliefriend and I started getting pretty serious, and soon she was spending most nights with me. It certainly didn't help endear her (or me) to my roommates that I had a big room, whereas they had small, children's bedrooms.

But I'm straying a little off topic.

Six months into my contract, two girls from the UK came to work at the school. Both of my roommates were away, and it was agreed upon that the girls would spend the weekend at my place, until their apartment was ready. I knew about this, but was told that they would be arriving at 1 o' clock in the afternoon. When they showed up at 10am, with the school's assistant director and coordinator, I was pretty surprised. I was in bed with Girliefriend.

Gulp.

I got dressed, answered the door, greeted my unexpectedly-early company, and did my best to try and hurry the two seemingly-tired girls into their temporary bedrooms so I could sneak Girliefriend out. But my supervisor noticed that the veranda was littered with empty beer bottles, and demanded that I and the coordinator return them to the supermarket up the street. I went into my bedroom, explained to Girliefriend the precarious situation, and told her to keep the door locked, in case my supervisor got the bone-headed and rude notion to show the two girls my room.

Darn lucky thing the door was locked, too, because after I returned from the store and saw the AD and coordinator off, Girliefriend explained that the assistant director DID try to show the girls my room, and was understandably perplexed when she found the door locked.

Some months later, I was called into our school's new assistant director's office. One of my roommates had complained about Girliefriend staying over. Funny, because said girl had her loutish Aussie boyfriend over most nights. Also funny because I had only three weeks left on my contract.

Roommates suck.

Scarier still...what would they do to find out and what would they do if they caught you breaking the rule?

I don't know...sometimes they get weird about stuff like that. I had a double bed in my apartment because I took it over from a married couple. Then another married couple came into the apartment complex and I had to give up my bed, switch down to a single.

Of course the married couple should have a double bed, but I just don't like the whole somewhat accusatory "since you are unmarried, just why would you want a double bed anyways?" thinking.

I don't know...maybe I have a lot of stuffed animals? Very Happy

I know a guy, he had a buddy come visit him from back home for a few weeks. When he was about to finish his contract the director demanded 300,000 won from him. That was what he figured it would cost for the man's friend to stay in a yogwon during that period.

I would say... Never sign a contract like that. It leaves you open to alot of different problems with the Wonjong
