Is it just me, or is Dave's search engine incredibly inefficent??? Yesterday, I was doing a search and tried using the AND option (eg: baseball AND team, meaning I wanted "baseball team" NOT "baseball" OR "team." The engine came back with thousands of posts because it found the word "AND" in them...
Thinking that the engine was boolian, I tried "baseball+team" and "baseball team" (using quotes in the last one, but not the first). For the first, I got "no posts match your search" and for the second, I got posts with one word or the other, not both together.
Can anyone suggest a better way to search, or encourge Dave's to refine the engine? I think a lot of repeat questions might be answered more easily if the search engine were more efficient. |

It's not you. But I have no intention of running or manning a site like this, and I have a very good rote memory, so I just punch in the author name if anything ever comes up.
for example, kiwioutofthenest-she was cool.

But if you don't know the author, or need some obscure, dated information (and this is a GREAT forum for obscure info!), typing in authors isn't an option. |

Yeah, but I don't have or necessarily want the technical skills to improve the Search function. There is a technology forum, so my being the optimist one of the mods might have an idea to work around it-what about it mods? |

I usually just make a half hearted attempt to find what I'm looking for through the search function, then I make a thread with the disclaimer that I tried the search function first. Someone with more skill usually finds the info I'm looking for or knows it first hand and tell me the info I need.
No one can I say I never tried.... |

This site doesn't use the same search parameters that you may be used to and won't work.
Type in "Baseball Team" and then select the function underneath "Search for all terms" and that should help you get a better return. I got 24 matches. If you remember what forum is was posted on, you can narrow your search selection even further.
It's not a great search engine, that's for sure, but there are ways to work with what's there. I don't think it's going to change any time in the future unless the creators of phpbb come up with a new version in the future with an improved search engine. |

Google taskbar does a good intuitive search on multiple terms when you click search on "current site." |
