A few, it is an interesting place to visit just because so many students have been there as thier only "outside exposure" to the world.
It is not a tropical paradise.
Don't ever take a job there, or any other place that describes itself by its geographic location.
Famous for pears or apples etc. There will be nothing there but pears and apples. Nothing.
Jobs in Ceju-do are well known for being burns. |

You want palm trees? There's palm trees here on Geoje Island too, off the southeast coast.
These areas of Korea are pretty warm in the winter, allowing for palm tree growth. They're no big deal actually. Except on first glance I guess: for the tourists.
Speaking of which, I'm heading to Jeju Island soon (8 days and counting!) for a vacation and looking forward to trying out the beaches (daring to compare islands), hiking Halla and eating the local cuisine.
I don't expect Jeju to be any more of a paradise than the paradise I live with every day here on Geoje.
(See my avatar for just one of many great beaches; the hiking is good too.) |

I give Jeju a 6.5 out of 10. Some really nice spots, some really typical Korean spots (ie - concrete and grime). |

You needn't go to jeju for a palm tree. i noticed some in Pusan. That very bottom southeast tip of the peninsula for about 30km radius around Busan is a different climate zone to the rest of the peninsula. Even the bird species are different there to the rest of the country:) |

Mokpo as well. Not many, and not exactly towering palms with coconuts hanging off of them, but they're there. |

Has anyone noticed the fake palm trees outside restaurants etc, usually with flourescent orange leaves and neon lit at night? |

It's nice but it's not the "Hawaii of Korea" as a lot of Koreans I know claim it to be... |

Does the warmer climate make them easier? |

30 km? Maybe 30 km northward, but certainly 300 km westward along the southern coast to Geoje, Tongyeong and Namhae.
I'm actually getting some r & r at Sanju beach on Namhae Island, this weekend. The only reason I sought out a PC room at the moment was that my Korean friend failed to meet up with me here. What's the scoop? Well, in typical Korean fashion, he made last-minute plans to fly to Canada and visit his girlfriend who's there for a month. Can you buy a ticket for same-day departure in Korea? Apparently so.
Thus here I am, on a great beach with a nice nightlife, without the fun of sharing it.
That's why this jaunt has become one of rest and relaxation, instead of excitement and festivity.
The water's warm and shallow in the lagoon-like bay off the southern coast of the third largest island in the country.
If you haven't been to Sangju Beach on Namhae Island, I highly recommend it. (It even has palm trees!) I've been here a few times before and always had a great time.
But it's just not the best place to end up alone.
I'll get a few hours swim in the morning before heading back home at noon.
What really gets me is that the Korean friend who's chased his girlfriend to Canada is the same guy who really wanted to join me on my one-week trip to Jeju Island (7 days and counting).
I'll have to go with Plan B, a fellow foreigner with a proclivity for whining and mooching. (I'm keeping my eyes open for a Plan C.) |

Any online booking sites for Jeju?
Any medium priced hotel suggestions out there? Say in the 50,000-100,000won range. And for Chuseok, yeah, prices go up.
