I see all kinds of ads for flights in the classifieds of the Korea Times, but they never say if these are return fares or one way, and how long these prices are valid for..anyone have any insight into how to interpret these ads? It is quite a pet peeve these days.

Also, whats up with all the adverts for Indian restaurants, and where is the news about Canada? Apparently, the world news means US only news.

I just subscribed to this paper, and I have to say that I am not impressed. I was desperate for English reading material, which is why I signed up. Is the Herald any better?

The Herald is even worse in the International section. They have a 2-page spread, both of which have a half-page of ads. One side is Asia/Pacific and the other International. Each has about 2 articles daily, and maybe a short blurb or two. Plus, the sports sucks in the Herald. I do admit though, the Business and Finance section is a bit better.

The other thing is that they both use the same news services, so you're going to get basically the same stories in both papers. The opinion pages in the Herald are very bad in my opinion. Much better in the Times.

One other difference is the comics and the Entertainment page. They both have different comics. Herald has Baby Blues, Dilbert, and Jump Start.

It's up to you, but I prefer the Times. My boss subscribes to the Herald so I read it in the morning, but then I go and buy the Times at lunch until I actually subscribe to it.

Both of those newspapers are bad. Get the Herald Tribune which comes with the Joongang Daily. It is much more balanced. It is a little more expensive, but you get 2 papers. Those other newspapers have little interesting news and reak of the status quo. They offer few new ideas or editorial criticism of Korea. The Joongang is much more interesting.

Both the Herald and the Times are awful papers. Anyone who works there should hang their heads in shame.

Definitely go with the International Herald Tribune. The Herald has a more global perspective and the Joong Ang Daily keeps you up to date on what's happening in Korea. The only thing Korea Times and Korea Herald are good for is wiping your ass. Rolling Eyes

Both the korean times and herald suck. I should say the editors suck! Why? Because they let their advertisers mislead the public!
And not just on the travel section. Sometimes I wonder where the korean mind is? In the gutter?
You just try calling one of the travel companies listed in these newspapers...pick a special flight fare..any flight. ie: China for 4D 3N and then call the travel company! It is not available! Or that was last months fare or you want to go next month? Sorry...we don't know the fare for next month! Or you want a certain date...not available.
I have personally tried over the years, at least half dozen of the travel companies. And I am always told, not available. Yet, I'll call the airline directly and ask for the same date and it's available! Happened every time!
It's best to not use a travel company. They want you to stay at such and such place because that's how that make the most money. You are better off getting your own flight ticket...many special fares available if the consumer searches..and fly where you want and get your own hotel room. It's usually cheaper. Especially to the Philippines and Thailand!! Cheap airfare and rooms everywhere for less than what the travel companies quote.
