I still amuse myself by thinking back to when Hatch was trying to push through a law that would allowed copyright owners to legally destroy computers if they had violated their copyrights only to have everyone then learn his own website had lifted copyrighted material from other sources.
Good times, good times. |

Hatch must be getting some major kickbacks from some tech firms... |

Quite the opposite. He gets substantial cash dollars from Hollywood and whatnot, while tech firms have donated far, far less. Thus perhaps explaining his great love affair with trying to strengthen copyright holder laws while bringing down the heat on tech companies. |

Apparently, he's a big proponent of stopping child exploitation at all costs, which is admirable in theory, but we all know where his wallet is....in his heart.
Short for 'Inducement Devolves into Unlawful Child Exploitation,' the bill has little hope of being passed, despite some pretty powerful people behind it.
This bill could easily apply to TiVO, CD-Rs, VCRs...anything that has a high probability of being used to infringe copyrights. |

As far as I know, Orrin Hatch is also the only member in Congress to have made an album.
He just won't quit on the intellectual property thing. My opinion on the whole thing is a radical new concept of copyright laws to go back to their original intent in promoting artistic creativity. How about instead of selling copyrights for a, ahem, song, artists can only lease them out for a while, and if the company cheats the artist out of her fair share of profits from her sweat, the lease returns to her after a period of time. |

Conversely, wasn't it ruled legal in Canada?
Anyways, I too am happy that I will be in Korea for a while where these downloads are still very much free-flowing. |
