...I've endured over 8 months at a very, very bad school and am finally considering running. I'll probably try and stick it out until the end, even through being strong-armed (for the second time) to sign a new, worse contract. But I also firmly believe I'll be fired before the end, to avoid even potentially having to pay severance.
What I'm wondering is, is there any way of claiming the pension already paid if you leave before the end of your contract, and specifically if you run? Also, how can I find out if my boss has actually been paying the pension?
And also, where can I confirm with 100% certainty what my income tax should be-I'm pretty sure, after blatantly stealing from me, my boss is now "secretly" stealing from me since my tax is three time what other teachers making the same is and three times what all the websites I've looked at say it should be.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Getting your pension refund has to do with a tax treaty your govt signed with Korea. You should go to your embassy site for info.
I doubt running would affect your pension refund situation. It's an international treaty and running is not illegal here as far as I know.
You're just talking about quitting without giving 1 months notice. But then you're not working so your E-2 is invalid at some point which means you have to leave Korea. Under some conditions you can get your status changed which allows you to stay longer. Suing somebody(to claim unpaid severance for example) or being arrested for a crime are two reasons I think.
You need to contact the local taxation office to find out about taxes. You need your employers tax number to find out if he's paying your taxes and how much.
Good luck. I hope this helps. |

Stick it out, man, don't run. Then you have legal recourse to get everything you've been working for: pension, bonus and flight (if that was a part of your deal)
If they fire you before the one year then you can fight it. They have to prove your incompetence. They can't play the "summary dismissal" card after six months. So you have the upper hand.
Of course, if the situation is very unbearable and you don't care about the money, then do whatever you want. This hagwon doesn't sound like it deserves the courtesy of being informed that you won't be working for them anymore. |

This thread has a bunch of contact #s for different English speakers at gov't agencies. It should help.
God Luck.

It sounds tough, but leave with some dignity. Tender your 30 days notice and have the satisfaction of seeing them trying to replace you. You've stuck it for 8 months, make the last one work for you. Best of luck. |

In FAQ, there's a website for the National Pension Corporation. Whether or not "running" will affect your chance at a refund, I don't know. |

Now I know why your called sadsac!
Honestly, 'leave with some dignity'. You know what this means to a hagwon?
This foriegners given us a chance to get a free whole month of teaching!
Yay, we know they are going to we don't have to pay! Plus we have enough time to get someone new in! Plus we don't have do pay severance! Great! A month is such a good long time.
I did this dignity thing for too long. Now I think there is more dignity in standing up for yourself by leaving then by staying in a job you don't like.
The last one won't work for them if the school doesn't pay. It will be voluntary, unless you really trust them don't do this.
If you trust them and know this would be appreciated, go ahead.
Just a warning. |

Thanks for the leads! Whether I leave or not may (likely) not be up to me, but I can influence under what terms I leave. And believe me, when I'm finally rid of this place I will post all the info on the school, spelled correctly this time, unlike the post by the last person who tried to warn of this school.
Canadian btw-I'll check out the embassy website. |
