Hello,
I'm currently looking in to a possible job opening with a company called EduTown. Its been briefly mentioned once already on these message boards and the particular review wasn't very good. However, I was hoping that I could get some additional comments from anyone who has either worked their or who is presently employed by the company (they only provide one reference on their website).
In case anybody isnt familiar with the company, you basically do 4-6 private lessons a day at either the person youre tutoring home or your own apartment. Its different from the hagwon route as you work under an H1 tourist visa for 6 months (can be extended after that) instead of an E2 working visa. It seems that there are particular loopholes that allow for this.
The pay is pretty good with 2.4 million won for 30 classes per/week (excluding travel and report writing time) and it includes round trip airfare, yearly bonus (only 1 million won), single accommodations and a mobile phone. (I can post the contract if anyone is interested)
I realize that by working under these conditions (H1 visa), that there is less stability compared to working under the E2 visa. Nonetheless, if there are positive reviews and I fulfill my part of the bargain, then it actually seems like a good deal.
Thanks everybody |

That does not sound like good pay to me for that kind of work. That's 20,000 won/hr not including all the commuting. It's possible to get that at some hagwons and you don't have to spend four, five hours a day on the subway when you work for a hagwon. |

yeah, I'm with Prosodic on this one. A buddy of mine worked for an outfit like that (may even be it), and said that the commuting killed him. Sure some days it'll be fine, but think - SNOW, ICE, MONSOON, et cetera.

Commuting in Seoul can be very nasty., the severance pay is very low, and I wouldn't think it's very legal even without the E2. Unless you get an allowance for travel time and expenses. Knowing that disorganization is a way of life here, I'm seeing potential for disaster all over it. |

Remember that you can't just get a new job if it is not working out. With E2 visa there is a way to quit and get a new job but not with the holiday visa. |

No, there are no loop holes. They are simply gambling that you won't be caught. If caught, you will be arrested, fined, and then kicked out of the country when someone pays off your fine. |

No, her name is Jessica Kim. I think she's a recruiter.
After these negative feedbacks and further research of my own, I wan't to smack that biotch for trying to sell me on this garbage job in the first place.
Remember kiddies, DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE COMMING OVER!!!
Thanks again y'all |
