I need to send money to my uni in Britian. My only option is to use a cheque, as I have no credit card. I heard you can get cheques at the KEB on another thread. I tried this morning, however, and they only did traveler's cheques in US dollars. Sad

Am I missing something?
Is there a difference between a cheque and a bankers draft?
Will I be able to get any sterling out of them?

I use KEB to send cheques in GBP to be depopsited into my account back home - I think you asked for the wrong thing. Maybe it's called a bankers draft, not quite sure...

thanks seoul101,
I know you said your not sure, but I guess you didn't ask for travelers cheques?
Is it a complicated business, like a transfer always seems to be?

You can send via swift from your bank here in korea to any bank in the world, its cheap too. It will take 2-3days though. Other option is western union, but thats only if you need to send in a hurry! Its cheaper via swift! All transactions are first exchanged into USD then it will arrive at your bank and get exchanged again.

Easy nothing to it!

thanks hang10, but the point is that a transfer won't do in this situation.

For the record: the thing to ask for is a "wire cheque" the manager didn't seem to know anything about them but some other chick had obviously been awake during training and knew what to do - she knew the name of the thing. Its the same form as the wire transfer but they tick the "WACS" box, then print you out a cheque. Its good 'cos you pay all the fees there and then. Cost me about 10,000.

I've always asked for a banker's draft and got one.

You need a different branch of KEB, obviously.
