I have been and gotten my F2-1 and this is what I needed:
My passport.
My alien registration card.
My English wedding certificate.
My contract.
My wife's contract.
My wife's family tree with her on it.
My wife's family tree that she now has on her own with my name on it.
My wife's Chu Min Dong Rok Pio - proving where she lived, but not if she owned it. You can get it at your local dong office at the same time as getting the family tree.
Fill out the form. Plead the dumb foreigner if you get the nice girl, usually on the middle counter.
It didn't cost me anything because I am a) a Brit and b) I am already on an E2 visa.
It did cost me 10,000 to make a new card with my F2 on the front and my E2 on the back as my secondary visa.
To do this, you need the school certificates, two of them and your degree and contract.
It was done in 2 days.
No problems whatsoever.
Try and go prepared with too much. Maybe it was just me, or maybe she did appreciate that I had all the forms that I needed and handed them to her in one pile. |

How do F2 visas apply to working? I heard somewhere that you couldn't work legally if you had one, but I don't know if that's true... |

F2 visa isn't a work visa, it's a residency visa. If you want a job teaching english, you still need an E2 visa. The big difference is that your spouse or family is now your sponsor, not your boss, so you don't need a letter of release and you don't need to leave the country to get your E2. |

A F2-1 visa does allow you to work in a family business as long as you are not paid. |
