Mine was when my girlfriend and I were going from Chamshil to Munjong-dong and there was a car coming the wrong way so our cab driver swerved onto the median, our car flipped flopped around almost flipping over and then we careened onto a sidewalk, the cab driver was screaming and cursing the whole time.
Reminded me of that scene from "Planes Trains and Automobiles" when Steve Martin and John Candy are driving the wrong way on the interstate and go right between two semi's and Candy turns into the devil and they are both skeletons for a flash second.
I know you've got some good ones, lets hear 'em. |

this still sends a chill down my spine....
heading home from downtown gwang ju one night.....on a long expressway heading to my area...pissing rain. The driver was a youngish guy started a bit of broken english conv.with me which basically consisted of " me want race car driver!...ferrari good good!....this car..no power". he wasn't willing to drive under 120 on the expressway...dodging in and out of traffic willy nilly...i was scared shitless...just with the rain and this crazy look on his face. Honestly i actually prayed a little prayer to jesus..."lord please forgive me of all my sins...i know even you can't stop the potential carnage here but please let me through the pearly gates after it happens. Amen"
well i got home anyways so who knows.... |

In Korea?
Bullet Taxi, 2 am, Shinchon to Chuan (Inchon).
I think it took less than 15 minutes and I swear we were airborne 90% of the time. |

I've had 2.
Took a bullet taxi from Masan to Daegu one night(35 000 won-good price) and it was damn fast. Took 35 minutes and sitting on 160 kilo/hour which in my drunk state at the time was awesome but thinking back wasn't so good. Did get there fast however.
The second one was about 3 weeks ago and there is this huge straight that runs up the back of Changwon going into Masan. So it is 4 in the morning and he decides to go as fast as he can which is a little worrying and then gets airboerne a few times going over the hills and down into underroad tunnels. He seemed to like doing it. |

I caught a ride from the airport to my friends apartment at about 1 am on a Wednesday in Bangkok Thailand. The guy was screaming down the roads doing over 170 kph and I was chanting my taxi driver mantra while gripping the dash with a whiteknuckled deathgrip:
'dont kill the songsangnim'
I guess it worked as we arrived without incident. |

here in cairo two nights ago...
No one follows the lane lines here, its a free-for-all. My driver tried to squeeze by this other car. Unfortunately he didn't see the scooter next to him. The scooter veered off to the right to avoid him, but there was a slight problem: to the right were parked cars. The scooter somehow managed to slip in a small gap between the cars but came to a complete stop. A bit dramatic but nothing too exciting right?
Well about 5 minutes later, we looked out the window, and there he was again. This time he started shouting at our taxi driver, saying what a fool he was. THe taxi driver yells back. Finally the taxi driver is sick of the motorbike dude and swerves into his lane to cut off the scooter, pissing off the scooter driver even more. instead of coming back to talk more trash, he falls behind us.
When we reach our destination, the scooter pulls up right in front of us. The dude hops off the motorbike, strides up to the taxi driver and punches him. The taxi driver then goes crazy and pushes open his door as hard as he can, making the scooter dude stumble back into the street. As he gets up, the taxi driver jumps out and they get into some fist fight. After a punch or two, people- certainly not me- jump in and break them up. Made for quite a ride. |

I've had to ask drivers to stop and let me out because I started getting a 'bad feeling.' |

if i had to stop a taxi driver every time i got a 'bad feeling' i'd still be on a curb-side somewhere.
my worst experience was last month when i caught a taxi home very late at night. the taxi driver saw that i was foreign and thought i had no idea where i was going. me and my friends were dozing off but we finally realized that he had driven 30m in the wrong direction. he actually argued that he was going in the right direction. i demanded that he turn the car around. when we finally got home AN HOUR LATER, he started cursing and abusively demanding the full fare on the meter. i gave him half. |

I had co-workers who went through that- they piled into a taxi one late night in Itaewon and told the driver to go to Taechong (now spelled Daecheong) station (i.e. the subway station in Kangnam near Suseo). They passed out and the driver woke them up at the train station in the city of T/Daejon!

i have never been ripped off by as many taxi drivers as i have since i've been here. it's so insulting. nothing harrowing though (unless rampant racist is considered to be harrowing)... |
