We have just had weeks of heavy rain, then a dry week, and now more rain. So now all of a sudden I have all these tiny bugs. Don't know what they are, size of a little ant, and they crawl around for a bit then fly. haven't a clue what they are or how to get rid of them. Problem is mosquitos (which I have plenty of too) breed in stagnated water, and living right near the rice paddies I am sure does not help much.
Anyone know how to get rid of these things? This bug spray that is sold here does not work, as I have tried 3 different brands. Also washed the floors with clorox. Ugh............

Your question bugs me, so I have to answer it. I'm no expert and I haven't looked at them with a magnifying glass but how about 'gnats' or 'fruit flies'. I have a juicer machine and they 'appear' after I juice carrots, but especially pineapple, and tear off to work without dumping the pulp and/or pineapple rind into the organic recycles dumpster outside. And when I get home they're there. They reproduce in no time at all and can do so without a mate, on their own. I'd spray them with that mowgi/mouskitoe killer spray in the tall, dark blue can and they drop like flies, kills them in mid air. Maybe there's a festering vegetable or something that rolled under a cupboard and that would be their 'base'. Or similiar crud in the sink.

According to my Korean friend, they're called "one-day bugs". They live one day, then die.

About the mosquito problem: I'm not a big fan of insecticides, but the mosquito coils seem to do the job for me and don't smell TOO bad!

Who knows what they are, but a friend who lives down the street from here has them too. Seems he got them last week. Possibly could be fruit flies, I just bought a lot of fruit yesterday and thats when I saw them. I also know that possibly they can come from crud in the sink. Today I don't see any since I sptayed and used clorox on the floors. And I did spray the apartment before I went out today. May see them later, who knows. But tomorrow I will get one of those coil things. Has anyone left them on all day? Of so, how many hours do they last?

get yourself a plug in job, the type with the little blue cartridges.

hard to explain on here but they cost peanuts and work perfectly..

don't worry too much about the mozzies.. they'll be gone soon.

I have 2 of those plug in things and they dont work. Living around the corner fromt he rice paddies has blessed me with mosquitos and now these bugs. Friend from school lives in an apartment a few blocks from here and does not have these problems.Seems the kids in school who live in apts also say they havent mosquitos. And they also dont live near the rice paddies. Oh by the way, I have mosquitos until december. seems the cold does not kill them.

Those turn up around my sink when I dont' do the dishes right away. Just try not to leave food around, and put any food garbage in a tightly sealed container if you can.

I'm curious if this is the same little bug/fly thing I've seen.

It's dark greyish/brown.

It's about the size of a capital "O" in 12 pt. font.

You can easily see it's wings.

It's very soft--when you hit it, it kinda mushes.

It doesn't fly very fast.

I looked at a picture of a mayfly on the internet, and it didn't look like the little fly-bug things that we had all over our hakwon. The mayfly pictures all have longer torsos, like a dragon fly. But then again, I see there are over 700 different kinds of mayflies...
