I'm considering a job offer in the Greater Seoul area. It is near the Bum-gye station (Line 4/Blue Line). Looking at a subway map, i'm wondering if i'm going to be way the heck out in the suburbs. Is there anyone out there who is living in Seoul who has advise for me. Ive never been to Korea, and im wondering if i really want to live so far from central Seoul. How far is Bum-gye (near Pyongchon) from central Seoul? What is it like in that neighboorhood? I worry about getting home late at night since Seoul subway does not run all night. Taxis can get expensive i imagine. How much would a taxi cost me you think? I want to be near the action, kind of, but still want some peace and quiet. Am i going all the way to Korea to live in suburbia? The school does sound pretty good though.
Please send help and advise. where do you live? do you like it? are there schools all over Seoul? I hear there are lots of schools near Bum-gye station too.

Here's a great map of seoul which includes named subway stations for all the lines.
Seoul Map
This link is to the subway map of Seoul.
Seoul Subway Map
You have to spell things correctly for the searches. Line 4 is the light blue line on the subway map that runs from the top right to the bottom left approx. After you find the location of the stop you'll need to co-relate to the Seoul map.
Maybe it's a bit of work but it's worth it. You'll know exactly where you are in Seoul. The map includes some banks, department stores, markets, tourist stops, junk food. You'll want to keep these links. |

Hey, i am close to beomgye. It is a good area. It is by no means out of the way. All of the important stuff is here, plus alot of hagwons so lots of other foreign teachers (good or bad u decide). It is about 40min by subway to central Seoul. I recommend the area. |

I almost got a job there one time.
I agree with Roy Jones. It's a hot spot. There is a Dunkin' Donuts, a McDonalds, and a Burger King, so you will never suffer from lack of Western food. There is a large department store with a cinema on the top floor. If you want to try reading in Korean, there is a library.
Is School Morgan the name of the school where you are offered a job.
If it is, please write back. |

Use the word for locating the place on the map. (just copy & paste it)
http://smap.naver.com/s/naver2/map/anyGuide_MapBrowser.php?jobkind=naver&mapkind=Naver2&sX=&sY=&sText=&eX=&eY=&eText=&sido=⵵&res=remote&mnu=mnuJuso&address=̵
I have lived in that area for about a year or so and I can tell you that it's heavily concentrated with residential apartments and commercial buildings. It is close to the government complex, Grand National Park, and Seoul Land(2nd largest theme park next to Everland). ̵ is a relatively new town that was built in the early 90's when I was still a teenager. North west of ̵ is Ⱦ1 (or Ahn-Yang 1 dong) where I spent my 6 years in elementary school and that's the downtown area. Lots of young people drink and cause trouble there. hehehe...
Oh, the newly renovated Ahn-yang subway station is pretty nice. The whole place is covered with big glasses and it's connected to a department store. It was still in the development stage when I was there two years ago but things should be all done by now. Is the station completed? I'd love to see how they improved. |

Hi,
I live near Bomgae and it is not that far out of Seoul. A Taxi home at 4am from the centre of Seoul is approx 20,000 won.
PM me if you have any more queries.

By the way, the 4th line(blue) runs past midnight until 1 am, so if you hang out late at night in Kangnam(south of the Han River) area of Seoul, make sure you get your feet on the platform at 翪(Sadang station) by 00:30 on weekdays and 00:00 on Sat/Sun/Holidays. |
