|

I was working this out today and thought I should post it for those who might need it....
If you are working man y hours part time for a school and they are tryig to get you under 30,000 an hour (or you are worried another teacher may offer less) this should be your minimum rate
2 000 000 average salary
400 000 average housing cost
100 000 monthly airfare cost (proportioned for arguments sake)
160,000 severence you will not get (proportioned monthly)
2 660 000 / month
120 hours teaching (standard contract)
22 166 per hour minimum.
This does not allow for holiday pay lost (full time contract will pay for your holidays too). You could be justified in bumping it up for holidays and travel fees (daily rate).
It also doesnt compensate for the additional risk c.f full time.
So calculate the actual teaching hours and times by this amount.
Request it be paid weekly not monthly also.
They may also screw you a bit on break times (ie no pay where as full time , small breaks are usually included as teaching hours).
So part time for Mon/Wed/Fri with 15 actual teaching hours would pay 332, 499 per week cash.
Minimum. |

I don't understand how you arrive at this number. Most people make around 2-2.2 million monthly. And that is with a full-time contract. |

Sorry, I'm not clear on the need of this thread. Foreign teachers need to be explained why they should charge a minimum of 30,000Won/hr for privates, because of XYZ reasons?
Here's an easier negotiating strategy. Ask high, but not above what you feel that you are worth and come down if you must, but not below the level where you are compromising yourself. 30-40,000 is going rate, depending on the situation. However, I'd settle for 25,000, if I really liked the gig, they can guarantee a lot of hours, and there are other pluses involved. And never take less than 40/hr for a group of 2; 60/hr for a group of 3, etc...
Sorry, but advice about asking for at least 30/hr and to seek to get paid weekly, is not really anything new. |

Point is, bulk hour part time gigs they often try to negotiate at only monhtly rate lower than 30,000
The risk of holding out for 30 is that they may find a more desperate teacher and its better to work than not work....
