My official payday is the 28th of every month. Early on, I told my director that she could pay me on the 1st of the next month to simplify things.

It is now the 9th and I haven't been paid. I'm on break between classes and trying to decide if I just want to explode and go ape sugar (that's a pseudonym for a banned phrase) or if I want to play it nice and polite. Mostly, I want to burn down the school. I would have said something sooner, but I've been out of town on vacation since the end of July... seems that if I don't remind the greedy bitch every single day that she has to pay me for the 40 hours a week I put in, then she conveniently "forgets"

How long have you been toiling at that job Ryleeys? I know that in my case, as I get closer to the end the little things that didn't bother me previously are suddenly almost unbearable. That might be partly it... but not being paid on time is never cool. Maybe go with just a gentle reminder at first and escalate from there.

I agree about things that bothered me when I first started there just about sent me postal by the end of the contract. I didn't realise how bad the stress was at working at a bad place until I got my current gig. I still won't go back to visit my old workmates because I hated my last workplace so much.

It could be that your greedy bar-stud boss is testing the waters to see how much you will allow her to get away with. While overdue payment of wages is illegal, it's unlikely they'll get shut down over it. It's a good tactic for calculating how badly they should try to *beep* you at end-of-contract time. (Greedy Bar-stud Hagwon Management 101).
Ask yourself, is the heightened stress I will incur by escalating things worth it? For me it would be, but I know some teachers who regularly let these things slide, and consequently enjoy life at their hagwon more.

You should know that these people have minds like medieval dungeons, things go in and get locked up, and the key gets lost. The large part of the brain that registers how to get money in is polished, oiled and firing on all eight cylinders, but the tiny part of the brain which has to deal with money going out is just fucked up plain and simple. IT WILL NEVER WORK. These people are like 5 year olds. You'll just have to keep 'reminding' the bitch that she owes you money for the work that you have done. It won't ever compute in any sense of a 'fair' way. That's an alien concept. The whole situation is hopeless as personal experience has taught many of us. Get another job or put up with it. Or just have a whank and relax about it. Worked for me every time. Wink

My current hagwon pays the full amount on time, every time. So did my first. However the 2nd one I worked for tried not to...
I allowed him to be a week late, then kept mentioning it everyday thereafter. At the 2 week mark, I gave a deadline and said I would be leaving if I wasn't paid- the time came, and i packed up and walked. He ran down the steps after me with the money. At the end of my contract I sat in his office for hours, telling all the other employees that I hadn't been paid, until he came up with the cash. Persistence is the key.
It sucks though, Koreans prefer to do everything the hard way.

Take a dump on her desk and blame your most hated student. It's a win-win situation.

They are late. I remind them. They don't cough up without a damn good excuse. I go back to the a par tuh and wait for my money. It worked for me once but then there's that visa release thingy issue so you have to use your own judgement.

My boss once told me on pay day that she couldn't pay me as she didn't have the money.

I said, "Well, I can't teach, then." Meanwhile there were about 15 students waiting in the classroom for the lesson to begin.

Within minutes, the money she owed me appeared LOL!!! Laughing

Yeah, I had a director who constantly was late with the pay. I explained to him that I was like the electric company. You don't pay, the electric doesn't work. You don't pay ME, I don't work. When he had to explain to 6 classrooms of moms (of course the students went home and told them that "ajumateacher" wasn't there) every month, he realized that payment on time was a good thing!

Yeah, do tell. Tell me you at least refused to work, and waited at the hagwon to tell people, esp paying parents. This can be simple and the best way.
