i've got a friend who needs to be cheered up in the worst way. were going out tomorrow night (seoul or kangnam), and karaoke and soju are not what i had in mind--something FUN would be just what we're looking for.
i've only been in korea for three months, so i'm open to any and all suggestions.
if you can recommend anything in the next twenty hours, i'd really appreciate it.
thanks.

Take a camera and go on a photo/video scavenger hunt.
Suggested items to photograph:
A car driving on a sidewalk
The videogame competition at COEX
4 different subway lines
You and your friend buying something from a street vendor
A sales person on the subway
A blind person on the subway
You or your friend eating something that would cause the folks back home to go, "eeeewwwww". (raw squid, live octopus, bundaegi)
Those girls in the mini-skirts that stand in front of a store whenever a new one opens up.
a bus/car accident
The Tex-Mex shirts of the employees at Burger King
A man and woman sneaking into a Yeogwan
The worst-dressed person you can find (this could be its own competition or count as extra credit if you want)
Anything else that you might deem "only in Korea" |

| Go to a DVD Bang and watch K-PAX. After that I'm not really sure though... |

wha...?
Of all the movies one could watch at a DVD bang, why K-Pax?
I don't remember it being such an uplifting movie that it would be touted as a surefire cure for the blues...
Not knocking your opinion so much as intensely curious about the reasoning behind your choice!
Does NANTA still play in Seoul in its own theatre?
That would be my first choice to cheer someone up, followed up by OB Stadium or Carne Station (for the 'all-you-can' drinks; the food just gets in the way). |

I often like to get falling down drunk. Somehow the hangovers remind me that I have more pressing problems (the hangover) than what I may have been ruminating over in the prior week.
There are obvious disadvantages to this approach I need not innumerate.
Oddly enough rather than what one might imagine, I've found that being totally hungover often puts the little kids insane antics in perspective. It could be that or the little kids realizing "grandfather" perhaps shouldn't be trifled with today.
"We'll wait till tomorrow and really nail him!"
Anyway I'm usually visiable as the skinny old guy babbeling at the local watering holes. Try Three Alley Pub tomorrow. Hell you can always go to Hooker Hill and get "ripped off" that'll put your problems in perspective as well. |

| Hongdae has trance dance music, is really 'hip'. Those Woodstock bars are nice, classic rock blaring out of giant speakers, slop from pitchers everywhere. |

It might just be me, but when I'm feeling down the last thing I want to watch is something that seems to be tailor-made to cheer a person up. A movie like American History X would also do the trick for me.
My definition of a good movie is one that stays in my mind for the next two days after it's over. |
