There has been some debate on the couple placement issue. If you are married, some schools like it, as it shows stability and less likelihood of you running around chasing skirts and showing up at work hungover.
But, if you are an unmarried couple, many schools are skittish and will ask 'well, what happens if you break up?' Sounds personal and preposterous, yes. But they have a point. If one goes, they both go. I've seen couples come over here and one doesn't like the culture, food, school, has a better job offer in another country, or some influencing factor to leave, then they both leave. And the school is out 2 teachers.
Both vantage points have pros and cons. It largely depends on whether or not the school has had past success with employing couples.
Most jobs are for singles and recruiters tend to not want to work extra and have to look around for a place that'll take a couple. So when he says that it's tough to place a couple, he's saying that he represents schools that need singles and he'll call you if a school calls and asks for a couple.
Have you tried Footprints yet? I've never used them, but they have a decent rep on the board.
I also can refer a good girl at Joblink. Her name is Jane and helped me get my current gig, plus is lining up another one for a guy on here. I don't know how much work she usually comes across, as the firm is predominately involved with executive and non-esl placement, but she works for their new ESL staffing department. She can be reached at [email protected].
Good luck and have patience. |
