I am working out a contract here at the mo....
Calculating working hours...
4o min classes then 10 in break.
Obviously the breaks will be spend preparing for the next class or talking with students anyway...maybe the odd quick trip to the toilet.
I think the 10 min break should be included....any comments/examples... |

My breaks are included. 50 mins on 10 mins off, paid for the hour. |

Common forms of contracts here are teaching/classroom hours=working hours. That usually excludes lunchee, breaks, and prep time.
You can always seek to negotiate this, though. Some will will bend, some won't. |

My first two jobs never paid for break time, but my last two have.
I don't think it's impossible to find them that pay for it.
If the breaks are 10 or 15 minutes long, it makes a difference.
5 classes and it's 50 built up - you either get paid breaks or someone will always decide to stick another class on at the end of the day.
Just a theory, a lot of people are on a salary anyway. |

I've had both deals. You should be asking your boss-to-be, not us. |

This is the best advice you can get. I seem to recall someone once posting here that the labor board had ruled that 50 minutes followed by a 10 minute break equalled one hour worked but I've never found any substantiation for that. Best to have the conversation about it before signing on and then including whatever you agree to in the body of the contract. |
