After over 2 years here, I have gotten to the point when I don't put up with it any more.

If an ajumma or anyone is walking and doesn't bother to "see" me, or walks right in front of me for any particular reason, that ajumma gets no quarter.

Maybe I need a break from Korea again, but I have stopped moving my body in strange ways at the last second to avoid hitting them.

I mow their azz right over, or bump them hard.

Am I evil?

No, not evil. You're teaching them to understand that actions have consequences. Good job!

lol great thread. I say we start a revolution in Korea. No more moving out of the way for pushy ajumas. It won't only be us waygooks either... everyone young can join in the uprising.

ahh good.. another 'koreans are stupid' thread..

just what i need.. Laughing

i was here for about a year when it kicked in... i move sometimes but not a lot... i'm not a rude turd like these people, if someone can't get outta the way or don't see me i give them the benefit of the doubt... but, if they just stupidly walk in front of me they cop it.

seriously... are they really that stupid they don't understand this is a problem or do they try as hard as possible to stuff you up?

i'm thinking stupid... it really blows my mind how this country can function with that sort of crap going on..

ahh.. i feel better now..

Don't get me wrong. I don't purposefully look for such occasions to bump someone.

I don't put up with just blindly expecting that I will move when they dive right in front of me or brush against me when there's 20 feet in either direction they could walk on.

Most of the time I'm walking around I have a big backpack full of textbooks in it. I always have have it slung over my right shoulder. If I'm walking down the left hand side of the footpath and someone wants to run into a bag of hard books it's up to them Laughing You wouldn't believe how much this simple trick has helped preserve my sanity.

It feels like Spring training in the NFL, you are the offensive lineman with a mission of getting from Point A to Point B, and the only thing standing in your way is Ajumma, the most vicious being on the face of this earth.
Now, you are only 2 yards from your objective, and ajumma is in your way, what would you do in the matter (popquizz, hotshot)

Would you;

1. Walk around them, but still have them shove you in the ribcage.
2. Go in another direction and hope you avoid rough contact
3. Go straight into the freight train known as Ajumma and hope for the
best.

Remember, choose wisely Razz

And what's with umbrella tips nearly poking eyes out? Has there been any skewered eyeballs in this country from not maneuvering around umbrellas? I've almost lost an eye, half a dozen times this year. Mad

I don't budge and have even extended the elbow to the real inconsiderate ones. Yea, two wrongs don't make a right but hopefully they'll learn a lesson. I figure it's too late to change the ajummas, but for the younger generation, they can still learn some sidewalk etiquette.

My friend once told me she turned around and smacked some ajumma with her umbrella after getting hit with one of these umbrellas...on a sunny day.

To me it was quite impressive, because she's the really passive non-violent type.

I don't really run into people intentionally looking for victims or anything, but I am quite frequently just ASTOUNDED at how people miss me when I'm hauling my hockey gear through the subway system... Whether I'm going down stairs or getting off a train (and this is not during busy hours, either), there always seems to be asshats that think the laws of physics are going to be temporarily suspended and the bag'll just pass right through 'em.... I really don't want to collide with people, but if I've got a direction to go and limited mobility (thanks to the forty-pounds of hockey equipment), I've got little choice than to batter the commoners mercilessly. I don't particularly derive pleasure from it, but it's gots to be done.
