As an offshoot of Cooking and the Single ESL Teacher I thought those of us so inclined could rate MREs. That way it'll be easy for us to buy the good ones.

I just had menu #2, Boneless Pork Chop.

Overall, not bad. The spiced apples were a touch bland and the vanilla milkshake kept a few of its lumps, but the pork itself was okay.

MRE MENU #2 -- Boneless Pork Chop: 7 out of 10

You'll turn into a major fatass if you eat those regularly. They're designed to have enough calories to last an entire day, and not just a pansy day at that. If I remember right they contain somewhere around 5000 calories/meal.

That being said my favorite was always the Thai Chicken meal. If you pour the tabasco packet in and stir it up it tastes rather decent. Always ate them cold too, no time to heat them up and whata waste of water. At this point though I've eaten so many of those things my colon probably looks like last month's lasagna.

They plug you up like no other too. It would be more beneficial to eat a brick of cheese than punish your rectum with one of those MREs.

Edit - Please don't support the black markets for selling those MREs. Other stuff is fine but those meals cost the government a hell of a lot more than 3500 won/meal. The way the deficit is going we should be saving Uncle Sam (and ourselves) as much money as possible.

Naw. Only 1,200-1,300 calories.

As for not supporting black markets. . . Well, nothing witty to say, but I will continue to do so.

Meal #9 -- Beef Stew

Tastes like Chunky Soup and looks like dog food so I really enjoyed it. Solved the milkshake problem by mixing it in the blender -- no more lumps.

That doesn't sound so "ready to eat" if you're getting a blender involved.

But don't you find packet food disgusting? I can't eat it anymore unless I really have to, due to the synthetic taste more than anything.

The smell of the chemical heater isn't the best, but I'm Generation X -- a birth certificate carrying member of the portable, plastic, perservative generation.

Could anything else fill the 3 Ps like an MRE? I think not.

ia m thinking of our Canadian Rations and some of the meals they put in those aren't ones you wouldn't eat every day (or at least i wouldn't)
eg. Ham Steak and Rasin Sauce (used to be pinapple but they figured rasin tasted better???) which when you open it up is a big round piece of ham with steak inbedded in it with Rasin Sauce.. i am gagging just thinking of it..
Salmon Fillet? yeah put Salmon in an aluminum pack right...

they used to have good meals, Lasgna, MacandHamburger soem meals are good.. but yeah they are designed to give you energy and they plug you up like you wouldn't believe.. i sure as heck wouldn't eat them everyday

Menu # 3 -- Beef Ravioli.

Right up there with the best of Chef-Boy-Ar-Dee. The ravioli bit was okay, but the brownie was right on and the little potato sticks were pretty good. The lemon/lime drink mix rounded it out nicely.

Be a MAN. Find some old 'C' rats and eat them. My favorite - ham and egg. Hoowah!
