I am happy they are over too but what do you mean extra money? All it means for my day is a longer (4 1/2 hours) and more breaks in the afternoon/evening so that I get no or little over time. I am exhausted - thank god it is over!!!

I'm doing okay for overtime for mine, so I suppose I can't complain too much, but really, my summer class was HORRIBLE (and quite deserving of those capitals) and whiny and now not having to deal with them anymore, as well as being able to get some sleep again, feels like the best thing that's ever happened to me. *happy sigh*

We just managed to get longer days than our contract specified and stiffed on our paycheck. When we asked yesterday where it was we were informed that our payday will be moved to the end of the month. NO NOTICE! I'm pretty exhausted, I've asked for overtime, and I don't know if I can last another week without pay.

Then I find out people are getting overtime for intensive. The head of my school claims they made no money and they can't afford to pay us the overtime. She also states we didn't earn any either.

So frustrating and confusing![/quote]

Intensives ended across the board right around now. This current work week has been a joke for me; I actually had some classes lined up, but kids cancelled on most of them and I've had basically 3 class hours for the past 3 days, and I've got tomorrow off.

i just did my normal scedule with an extra 2 classes a day. so i did 36 hours a week for the past month -- not too bad. they gave me an extra 600,000...i wouldn't have done it for nothing!

i made sure to ask before they started how much they were paying me...for those of you who are getting ripped -- why didn't you make things clear first?

I've been in the described situation before, and they basically blanket your schedule throughout the day, and give you all these little breaks here and there. You'll effectively be working from 9 to 9, but because of all the little breaks, you still don't clear your overtime status.

New to Korea and started right away with intensives. It makes me feel better that Im not the only one not getting much sleep and exhausted! though if I would have known better, would have picked a school with the OT pay. Sounds great. I like the courses, but glad its over!

I finished mine 2 weeks ago. I got a short contract to just do these 12 classes a week to cover a teacher who did a runner.

I didn't mind, it was 25,000 an hour, only 3 hours a day Mon-Thur, but the HEAT was killing me and being 9 months pregnant it was an even bigger drag.

What kills me is these stupid university students who sign up for intensive classes starting at 8 and 9am all summer long and then only come once or twice a week. What motivates them to join these classes? Some of them just sit there like stunned mullets the whole way through. It makes me want to grab them around the throat and scream 'WHY??? Go home and go to bed! Go to the beach! It's summer!!"

This is an example dialogue I had with one woman on my first day after replacing the old teacher:

me: Hello
S: ------
me: Hello
S: hello
me: What's your name?
S: Kim Ran-hee
me: Where do you live?
S: No
me: What do you do?
S: No
me: Okaaaaaaayyyyyy.....

Yes, I was 38 weeks when I finished, but it was only a 3 week session and only mornings. I could not have kept up a regular job all the way through for that long!
