Question:

If a girl works in a Noraebang or Karaoke bar, does that mean that she's also doing a little "extra" work on the side there?

I heard that sometimes these places can be shady, however every Noraebang I've been in only appeared to offer singing.

There is a bar called "Oasis" in Itaewon that had Karaoke, and I heard that the girl there are on the take for other stuff, but never saw anything more than "buy me a drink" going on there. It's sort of an expensive Japanese-style place and has pricey drinks -- hooks the older expats and businessmen mostly.

I ask because I am getting to know a girl who runs one of these places for her diabetic father in another city. I haven't seen the place yet, but I hear it's a Karaoke room. Would shudder to think that she does anything "bad" there, especially since it's her father's business, but I know Korea can be surprising in this way, sometimes.

Can't speak for most singing rooms, but have been to one during trip with the Korean professors who work at my university. It was common practice for them to ask for 2 girls to come and join the singing room. When in the room they were offered drinks and they would sing, while the married korean professors would grope them, grabbing their rear ends and such. And then they persuaded me to dance with one, and while I was, the professor next to me was showing that I should do what he was doing with the other girl by gesturing to me to grab her rear end too.
There's a singing room story.

And then there are just those stories, where the girls you're with, treat them like a motel room and unzip your pants... and what not.

Well, it's a norebang. Her English was wrong. I know a lot of those places are legit. I have a hard time believing that her father would knowingly farm her out, but who knows.

Maybe I will figure it out once i see it some day.

Hey-

You know, I also knew a girl who worked in a noraebang for her father in another city when I lived in Bundang....

No joke! However, no worries this time, nothing happened between us at all...

I'll explain the difference.

there are two different types of noreabangs which in Korean read a little differently.

There is:
1.뷡(which means in korean korean singing practice place) which is just normal singing room and one which is prevelant in many places.

2.뷡 (which means in literal Korean Singing and Alcohol room) is the one with the girls and where the more seedier things happen. These are prevelant in rad light districts and in down-town areas.

There's a singing room story....

your story isn't anything new.
ALL adult students take out the foreign teacher and show him a good time.
yes, its a little bit shocking the first time...but this is normal Korean behavior.

Wasn't saying anything was new about it for me. Thought it might be for some readers. It's exactly what I expected from korean men with no sense of right or wrong, who are 45-50 year married old professors at that. Didn't surprise me really that they liked to get their rocks off by fondling a couple girls in their early 20's, who were probably the age of their daughters. You're right it's normal Korean sick behaviour.

near any song room you can get a girl to come

room salons are where the girls are generally waiting and get paid heaps.. nori bangs are where they call the coffee girls and ya get a jump for 50 bucks..

you guys have been here long enough now...

get with the program

the trick is to grab what ya can when ya can... if you are soft.. that means the girls get some easy money...

they know whats expected of them.. thats why they do it...

they are whores

its a cultural difference and thats all.
"sick" was NOT an appropriate label.
