On vacation on Jeju-do and the other night I took the wife to the KAL Hotel Buffet for her birthday. It was quite lovely and couldn't help noticing the Buddhist Monk sitting next to us. Like that shaved Vulcan female on the old Star Trek movie, she sort of looked a bit attractive and repulsive at the same time. Made me wonder how a Buddhist priest could afford a 35,000 won buffet at a nice posh restaurant.

We went back to the motel in Sogwipo and had a nice night together. Next morning at 5:10AM, some %$&$ Buddhist monk was beating on their gourd outside our motel window!! Evil or Very Mad If I had a Barrett sniper rifle handy I would have taken him/her out! (deep six 'em!)

Anyway, I guess the monks start early in Sogwipo in the hopes of making enough money to drag their ass out to the buffet for a nice evening meal. I just wish that they would beg in a more quieter way so I can get some sleep!

All in all! We're having a blast on Jeju!

I don't think Buddhist monks take a vow of poverty- at least not the ones in Korea. I saw one driving a bmw through Itaewon once.

If you get to other Asian countries...you'll see these korean monks out drinking alcohol and catching all the local girls they can for some fun in bed. Especially in Thailand and The Philippines.

Many monks have totally undermined the credibility of their kind, with irresponsible and lewd behavior, corruption scandals and so on. The way they collect money (relentless banging of some resonant object outside businesses) reeks more gangster harrassment than anything else.

However some take their vocation seriously. I'm always hearing of korean monk "Ji-yul" and his latest hunger strike in aid of some worthy cause.
