there's a lot of rip off's of the body shop, eh?
i love it!
the same stuff at 1/4 of the price!
the candy shop is so funny! they even use almost identical packaging!
i never used to be much of a "product" person (too expensive), but these days i'm diggin the hand-made soaps, the shower cologne, the face masks.....
overall, i have to vote for the face shop -- the masks are good and the soap is amazing. but i like the candy shop's shampoo and conditioner.
what a frivolous thread! just curious about others' preferences.

The Body Shop is the Body Shop and there are always some certain things you can only get there.
I voted for The Face Shop. I love their prices, and I like the products made with Korean ingredients, like green tea, rice, and mugwort. |

i'm pretty sure that the face shop etc... test their products on animals, that's why their so cheap.
can anyone tell me why everything here is so heavily fragranced? i'm really sensitive to fragranced lotions (not to mention they are BAD for your pores) and i tried to buy a face lotion with sunblock, without whitening crap or frangrace to no avail. what's up with that? |

My fiancee said to let you know to kkep away from the Retinol A cream from Missha. It was a gift from a student's mother. It left her face red for days, and then very dry.
She generally sticks with Chanel or Christian Dior- pricey, but you know what you are getting! |

Look, I am not kidding here, and I know that many will not listen to me....
but....
KOREAN BEAUTY "SUPAS" ARE THE HOLY GRAIL
Supas. Those little hole in the wall, family run places. Not the grocery kind (although I loved those, too.) But the makeup kind.

thanks for the tip. yes, i agree...almost everything that touches my face is from clinique...i agree...the extra money is worth it, when it comes to some things.
i love the korean shops for cheap things like foot gel, lipsticks, aftershower cologne and the soap -- i love the soap. fun stuff. |

Outside of lipsticks, lip gloss etc I use MAC make up. It's well worth the price and I've built up a good relationship with my local mac counter so I'm starting to get great service from them. I recomment for a good night time look getting the strobe cream, which you apply before your foundation. It gives your face a real glow.
Also I love going in and getting them to give me a new look. As far as girly days go there is nothing better than going to a make up counter and getting a new look followed by a good lunch afterwards.
Cleansing stuff is all clinque.
I'm prone to acne and spent a bit of cash getting a dermatologist to clear up my skin and now that it's looking good I'm not going to waste it on bad make up (I'll use this as a chance to give Woo's skin clinic in samagakji a free advertisement he's probably the best doctor I've been to).
As for lipsticks, lipgloss, nail polish etc. Korea in general is the wholy grail of all things cheap. |

Just say (accented, of course)
Make-uh-over
They will understand
Gesture like you're putting blush on your face if they don't get it, but they've understood every time I've tried it.
I recommend Cathy Cat for makeovers, they're great.
What's with all the rage about Clinique? I mean they're ok-and I do mean just ok-in the States, but I would personally rather drive an hour and a half to get the Body Shop. (British version, much more natural than Clinique and they do not test on animals)
Actually Korean stuff is the BEST when it comes to makeup...ok my face used to break out all the time until I used this Korean soap this Korean lady recommended. This was in my hometown...it worked like a charm. Turns out I had sensitive skin that responds better to natural products not chemicals...and Korean stuff is made with herbal products not chemical. |

clinique is god's gift. i had acne prone skin most of my life and a couple years back i coughed up the dough for some clinique cleansing products (you gotta find the right stuff for your skin) and i've had few problems since. i use the cleansing bar and the toner (both number 3). i'm not crazy about the yellow moisturizer (a little oily for me). oh yeah -- "total turnaround" is possibly the best beauty product available....did wonders for my skin. so much brighter. every woman must try this. clinique's eyeliners and foundations (superfit) are also the best.
other than this stuff, i usually go cheap.
make-o-ba . thanks for the tip. i'll try it!

Yeah it's heaps of fun doing it here. Go to the big counters in the department stores. Sometimes you will see them doing it on other women. My friends and I usually say things like 'makeover' 'test' and they do it for us. Usually we have to keep prompting. Blush lipstick, eye and our look takes shape. Also you might want to specify what you're after. Night look, summer look etc.
Our korean is terrible and the make up girls are kind of shy but if they hear that you're making an effort in korean they will say stuff in english. It's heaps of fun, and sometimes they try colors that you would never thing of yourself. I've done it a couple of times and I've never been dissappointed with the results.
I think MAC is great. But do some shopping around.
Of course you usually buy some stuff afterwards. If you're not confident in you're korean see if you take a korean girlfriend along. Getting your make up done by someone else is heaps of fun and makes you feel glamourous and important. |

I didn't know Clinique was good for sensitive skin.
It seems to be the rage in my hometown, maybe my skin would not have been so bad as a teenager if I had used Clinique like my friends did |

None.
I have such sensitive skin I have to be very picky about what I use. I'm really hesitant to use any Korean brands because I don't know what sorts of materials they use. I tried the Body Shop but their facial products gave me a rash (they're bath products are decent, but not always worth the price).
I pretty much stick to NuSkin. It's an American direct marketing company, but it's growing very fast in Asian markets. I know the company & the products--I used to work for them and I've been using the products for about 6 years now. They're a little tougher to get because you have to find a distributer (or be one like me), but definately worth the effort. I just wish they'd include all the products from their US line in their Korean line.
The only real variation in my collection is color...I use clinique eye & lip color (when I make the effort to use make-up at all.. which is like never in the summer). I'd probably use more clinique if it wasn't so blasted expensive. NuSkin is usually cheaper. |
