"Yes, I'm a foreigner, don't be afraid. But you can stare at me."
Okay, this came from an idea I had ages ago. Tried to write it myself, but the grammar was poor and it wasn't as funny as I'd hoped. So, I enlisted Son Deureo!'s girlfriend to help me with it.
Every Korean who sees it giggles. All reaction has been positive. All in all, I'm glad I got it. A bunch of foreigners have also said they want one. If copyright laws existed in Korea, I'd make tons of cash. As it is, I'll settle for the satisfaction of seeing others enjoy my idea.
If you want your very own, there are probably many places where you can get it done. However, the absolute easiest that I know is the embroiderer in Itaewon. Facing Geckos, on that side of the street, turn right. Walk. Far. When you see an alley with a luggage shop on the left corner, go down it. The alley slopes down to the left. At the top of this slope, on the right, is a tiny shop with a bunch of embroidery outside. He'll embroider anything. Conveniently, there's a t-shirt store right next door.
This guy laughed and had me write the English translation when I had mine done, so there's probably a sample of this outside there now anyway.
Enjoy! |

Any critique from the apologist gallery? The shirt is clearly inflammatory and the message's intent does not properly reflect the true mind of the indigenous populace, right? |

I would have it say "DON'T stare at me or I'll rip your eyeballs out" but other than that it's fine. |

Corporal, since when do you frequent the apologist gallery? PEANUTS! Maybe you thought caniff was looking for apologies from the critical gallery.
Here's a critique from the apologist gallery: while the t-shirt message of the o.p. alleviates their fear and points out, in a humorous way, a habit (of staring) that Koreans themselves are aware isn't polite (as they teach their youth), it misleadingly exemplifies foreigners as light-hearted, understanding and tactful. That's just not true of many foreigners in Korea. |

That T is class. Very funny. I'd like to get a few custom printed shirts along the lines of 'yes, I'm a whitey', 'I'm not a yank but I'm English and you still probably hate me', 'Kimchi sucks', 'Would you like to practice English? If so kindly Get the Fu(k out of my face!', 'Ajumma stop shoving me, I'm bigger than you and I'll knock you on your arse'' or 'why do you have an inferiority complex? you are inferior'.
On the other hand I might order some that say 'Why do Koreans put up with such bad English on their teeshirts?' or 'Konglish sucks' or even 'I'm a mere weygook so feel free to treat me as a piece of dog crap that tried to bite you anke'.
No, really. I love Korea
Good business model I think. Anyone want to go into business on this one? |

I was thinking about leaving my poor grammar, because it made sense, but just barely. I figured it'd be the same as all the horrible English we often see, but I'm almost certain the irony would be lost, and I'd be dismissed as some fool with an incorrect shirt. |

Why would you say that? I would consider myself to be an "apologist" and I find it very funny. Koreans at my office think it is hilarious and told me to get one. |

Exactly. Anyway, my thinking is as long as I'm not offending Koreans, why would I care what foreigners think? |
