just thought i'd let everyone know about the icheon ceramics festival, coming up. i've gone before and i can tell you, it's beautiful. the pottery is amazing and there's tonnes of it. great place to buy some gifts, as the pottery is world reknowned, and some of it is surprisingly affordable. bought a really nice soju set there last time.
icheon is only an hour by bus from the express terminal.

Icheon is basically Korea's pottery capital.
There's even a pottery high school.
Icheon, however, is about as small as small towns get.
Although, it is worth a look. |

Is the pottery reasonably priced? What is the average price for say a small vase or something? I am just wondering how much cash to bring. Also, what bus to catch from Seoul, and where. I will visit Seoul for the first time during Chusok, and want to hop down to Icheon for a half day or something. |

the price of the pottery ranges. last time, i picked up a cool soju set for 18,000 and my friend bought a tea set for 150,000; another friend bought a small vase for 60,000. it was beautiful, though.
just depends what you want. there's a lot of famous artists' stuff for sale -- that's the expensive stuff. most of the stuff is reasonable. always go to icheon for pottery/ceramics....the stuff in insadong is probably from icheon and it's more expensive.
anyway, you catch the bus from the express bus terminal. there's signs that direct you to where to buy tickets for what place. the buses leave every hour or so and it takes about an hour to get there. |
