|

I would like to run my own server out of my apartment, but am not sure if this is possible. I am currently using thrunet as my ISP.
I have a spare computer, with a P3 866 processor, but I am not worried about server load as my sites won't be using much bandwidth - probably less than 1gb per month based on my current stats report from my host.
What kind of extra hardware should I purchase if I can do this with thrunet? I'm not concerned about learning how to use the software - I can install and run almost anything with ease.
Thanks for the advice. |

My first server in my apartment here in Korea was an P3-866 Celeron with a half gig of RAM. It ran fine and I was doing a few gigs a day up traffic ranging from web site hosting, streaming audio, and FTP hosting. Even had a firewall running.
The only piece of hardware you should look at getting is a second network card for the server, and then using it as a gateway for the local network in the apartment that way you are only using one IP. |

I've tried to run a server, but it seems my ISP (C&M) is shielding incoming port 80 connections. |
