A lot of my students want to study more English and I'm regularly asked about good hagwons so I've decided to try to put together a list.
What hagwons do you know that teach English with a good curriculuum (instead of that free talking bullshit), put students into appropriate levels, and have a four-skill communicative approach? |

I've heard some good things about Yale (some) and Moonkang and their programs. |

I don't think it depends so much on which school, but upon which TEACHER. If a teacher has been in Korea over a year (and usually, the longer, the better!) the more they know about HOW to teach, and how to incorporate the 4 skills. And if you DON'T know what the 4 skills are... |

I agree with ajuma. The specific teacher is more important than the school. Beaver, you're in Seoul, right? Send them to Sogang's Continuing Education program. We have a comprehensive program where they do conversation M/W/F and reading/writing Tuesday/Thursday for two hours a day. Some of our teachers are sketchy, but a few of us know what we're doing. |

Is that the Sogang hagwon at Sogang University or the Sogang Hagwon chain? |

At Sogang University. They register for classes on the 7th floor of Arrupe Hall. Actually, I didn't even know that there is a Sogang Hagwon chain. |

There is a chain.
As to the Sogang program. . . Well, they so thoroughly fucked their previous teachers I'm a little leery of sending anybody there on principles' sake. |

I know. I was leery of taking the job, but I backed out of a better job at the last moment and didn't have a lot of options. |

If your in Anyang, the school i've been at has a very good program. It does its best not to group "just" according to age but rather ability and continues a very responsive instruction style.
ENI school in indeogwon (Anyang). |

So what you're saying is that, since I don't know some crap about some 4 skills business (despite knowing each of these skills individually and knowing how to teach them), that I'm an embarassment.
Gee, makes me feel positive about trying to improve my "dorky teacher" vocabulary.

I'd recommend my school, Beaver, but it's pretty much a test-prep school. 9 out of 10 students are studying TOEFL, SAT, or SSAT stuff. The rest are little kids. |
