Hi
Is there any interest out there for a monthly get-together at a vegetarian restaurant?
I think it would be nice to sit around a big table or two, enjoy a great meal and discuss whatever comes up. Of course this get-together doesn't have to be exclusively for full time vegetarians.
An additional benefit is that if the group were big enough, it could help the bottom lines of the restaurants we all love.
If a club or group like this already exists, please let me know!
I hope to hear from you. |

I'm vegetarian, have been for ages, and basically, anywhere theres been a ladies lunch has been veggie friendly- cause I've done my homework.
I think the idea of a veggie meeting has a little too much potential to become an animal rights lecture for my taste but I'll be happy to suggest locations. |

I am a vegetarian. I'd be up for a monthly meal at a veggie restaurant.

I'm down with the idea.
And by the way, I really haven't discussed vegetarianism much with vegetarians. It's not all we do. Usually it's non-vegetarians who I have to explain my reasoning to. |

quality comeback.
Do the veggies here have a good way of asking for the meat to be taken out in korean?
My friends here just seem to go "No meatuh! No fishee!" when we order, and even then you'll get the odd bit of ham. |

| The phrasebooks say "chaeshik juui imnida" but I've been told that's very old fashioned by Korean friends. I usually just say "vegetarian-i-ayo" and that gets the point across. |

Actually, I've found that you have to learn what is in every food you might want to eat and then specifically ask for them to leave it out. If you simply say cheshikjuuijin, they likely won't know what you don't want. If you say no meat (kogi) you might get ham. If you say no meat or fish, you might get oddeng (fish cakes). Or, you might get no large chunks of meat while the sauce has little chunks of meat in it. Then, some restaurants put meat in certain dishes that other restaurants don't. If you are used to one place and order the dish at another (e.g. omurice) you might be surprised. |

| I was a vegetarian for 5 or 6 years. 'til I came here. I would like to go back to it, but it is damned hard. On the plane here, I went through that, the stewardess gave me a meal, it had meat, i politely refused, she offered another one, again i refused. A korean woman, who lived in BC, who spoke good english told her. Ten minutes later, she brought me a salad from first class. With most of the fish picked out. I ate around it and wondered how it would be here. I stopped after a week. When I get to know a bit of korean, have some some local restaurants that understand my beleifs, and learn how to cook more veggie stuff without a damned oven, and understand how to read korean labels, maybe then. Any vegans out there? You must be wasting away. |

I wouldn't call myself a vegetarian, but I don't have to have meat with every meal. If it isn't a why meat eaters are going to go to hell type thing, I'd like to join just to meet new faces and try new interesting restaurants. |

That's the one that you might get ham with, still (cause it's not meat, somehow ). You might get fish, too... |
