I'm a Hotmail customer and lately I have been getting emails delivered to me up to three days after they were originally sent. Many people I know who are Hotmail and MSN users are experiencing similar problems. Does anyone know what the deal is? I emailed tech support a couple days ago, but of course they haven't gotten back to me. I'm quite disgruntled.
I am now using my Yahoo account as my primary email account and I'm pleased that they've given their customers 100 MB of storage free (as opposed to Hotmail's 2 MB of storage).
So, does anyone know what's up with Hotmail? |

shortskirt.. look at the headers by clicking on More Options, Show Original. Examine the lines that start with "Received: ". Each one ends with the date/time on which it was received by that mail server. You may find the weak link is not the Google server, but the sender or an intermediate. |

If they are coming from Korean sources, you're lucky you get them at all.
For at least the past year, Hotmail and various Korean providers have been in a sort of "war" for control. Well, in my opinion, Hotmail and MSN have just been like normal, and the Korean providers have been trying to keep "control" of their "turf" anyway.
This fight is all done under the guise of "stopping spam", but in reality, it's pretty obvious they are in a turf battle.
I no longer bother trying to send mail from hotmail to hanmail accounts, for example. When it first began, they bounced back. Now, the current trick done by Hanmail is to let them sit for 3 days, make you think the other party received them, and then return them -- sometimes.
It's a bogus thing that really screwed with me when I was correcting some important student articles for the school newspaper. I corrected 3 of them on a weekend, sent them, and they were never received. The students got ticked at me but never said anything, figuring I was too busy -- so they gave those articles and several others to the other foreign teachers -- thinking I wasn't interested in helping them. No one said anything, and several days later I get a letter back from Hanmail that they were blocked.
Well, administration heard wrongly from the students that I had "ignored" their articles, and it made me look bad. The only thing that saved me from looking really bad was that I had, luckily, saved them in my "sent" box, which was dated. I had proof that I had done them and sent them.
The whole situation was a real pain in the ass.
Oh, wow, I can say "ass" here!
Anyway, I hate Hanmail, and this "turf battle" which makes me send e-mails via 3 different accounts to hope that my mails get through.
It all goes further than just e-mail (it also involves router blockage, etc). In the end, Korea loses out. Hard to be the "Hub of Asia" with this situation.
I am thinking of writing a scathing editorial to the Korea Herald. |

A friend, recently arrived, met a cute woman (a Korean animator no less) in a bar and she gave him her email address. He emailed her the next day and it bounced back. He was crushed. She gave him a fake email or wrote it down wrongly.
"Don't panic," I said. "Was it a Hanmail email address?"
"Yes."
"Okay, you're going to have to use something other than hotmail or yahoo to email her. Hanmail doesn't seem to accept email from hotmail or yahoo. Your Korean is good, so get a Hanmail account."
"Why does it bounce back?"
"The short explanation is 'because this is Korea'." |

Welll they are shortly planning 250Mb and rich text (HTML) style messaging. Can't beat Google Mail though which is great even in Beta form... can't wait until they finally stop mucking around with their flotation and actually roll out their full mail service.
PM me if you want a gmail account. I have a few to give away... |

Gmail is still in Beta and it shows.
Have you tried doing a multiple-address e-mail? You can't without individually typing each address into the box!
I sent them a complaint via their feedback thing and they got back to me to say sorry, it's true, Gmail doesn't support multiple addressing from the contacts page. I would've thought that was a basic.
When Hotmail goes to 250mb i think I'll give up on my Gmail. |

Errr how long have you been around program development? The whole point of a beta is that it shows... so you can work on your first release.
Sure, multiple email addresses would be convenient but autocomplete is a useful feature which makes it very quick to type in multiple email addresses.
Another feature which Hotmail will have when it comes out is HTML email which Gmail really should have when released. I've recommended this too. |

Point taken. What is autocomplete? Haven't came across that. |
