Hi,
I've been working at my school for about 1.5 months. They deducted medical insurance payments totalling about 72,000 won. I haven't received a card or filled out any forms for the insurance. Also I haven't got my alien registration card yet.
They gave me some song and dance about it just being an automatic deduction. I have the feeling that I'm not covered by any insurance and this money is not being paid to an insurance company.
Does anyone know the actual proper procedure involved in obtaining your medical insurance?
Thanks for the help. |

I think your situation is about normal for here. You should have got your Alien card by now, but the medical insurance card doesn't come through for awhile. 72,000 is about what I pay.
Of course that doesn't mean they are not doing a scam!!! If all your stuff isn't sorted out by 3 months then kick up a fuss. |

But what I'm saying is that if you haven't signed up for the insurance, how can you be paying?
I mean if I had signed some forms or something like that it'd be different, but I haven't. Where I worked before I filled out some forms about my hobbies and stuff. Then they calculated the cost, split it in half and I paid it in monthly installments.
It seems a little sketchy to deduct money for insurance if I haven't filled out any forms or got my alien card.
What do you think? |

The medical insurance your school should arrange for you needs no input on your behalf. I don't even remember signing anything but i usually got the card within 2-3 months of starting. I think it's just a standard policy that covers virtually all the usual stuff your basic policy at home would. Sorry but I don't know the details of what it covers. |
