|

Forgive me if this has already been discussed, but I was wondering if some of you guys could let me know your experiences at Hagwons as far as lesson plans, books, etc. are concerned. I've been seeing a lot of names of books or names of a series of books, and I would like to know how teachers get these materials. I am afraid that I will have to come up with everything from scratch, by myself and without help! Thanks a lot! |

Any school worth working at will provide textbooks, but you'll probably have to develop your own lesson plans and games from that. Some schools have additional materials, like supplementary books, games etc on hand and other s don't. Put this question on the list of things to ask a teacher that's currently there. |

Most contracts do stipulate you spend time on lesson planning. It's not that hard. I only teach 4 hours a day so I have lots of time. I don't mind taking my laptop to starbucks and working on some additional material. If you're working crazy hours lesson planning can then become a pain. |

school one curriculum: Book one page one day: page one: I am a boy She is a girl. Students repeat. Page 2: He is my father. She is my mother. Students repeat.
That was the curriculum. It was pretty much up to me what would be done other than that. As we had monthly tests on the 'curriculum' I made sure the students understood it and then supplemented it with games and other plans to reinforce the lesson. Anything from having them draw pictures of their families, bring in photos and have them tell me about thier families etc.
School 2 curriculum: Ani-talk books( hated them tons of mistakes and boring as hell) Read lesson, usually 3 or 4 pages. Repeat, have students team up and roleplay. Mon, reading new lesson, Tue, practice roleplay, Wed, Grammer part, Thurs, presentation/competition Friday game day. No tests or anything. Game day turned out to be a pain in the ass after a few months, way more work than teaching.
Curriculum at public school. Just getting to know it and working through it. Seems to be fairly well balanced. Great supplemental materials. Time will tell though. |

As others above have said, it varies from hogwan to hogwan. When you talk to the hogwan, make sure you ask them about what kind of curriculum they have in place, and what resources they have. |

Thanks for all the responses. I'll certainly ask the director which materials they have at the school. |
