|
|
So anyway I am deciding what to have for dinner tonight because im kinda too lazy to cook.
So there is a pizza shop at the bottom of my street and I decide to get a small pizza for myself. I look up at the choices and order a pepperoni pizza. There is an image of Pepperoni and Cheese. Thats whats usually on a pepperoni pizza.
Anyway I pay my 8k and go for a walk till its ready. I come back 10 mins later asking where my pizza is. The pizza guy opens the oven and looks at a pizza with a What the *beep* look on his face and gestures to the Ajuma.
She comes over and is startled for a split second and then recovers. She had made a combination pizza instead of a Pepperoni pizza. But she tried to pass it off as a Pepporoni pizza because the Combination pizza had like 2 bits on it.
I am like No fucking way is that what I ordered. I point to the picture above of what a Pepperoni pizza is spose to look like. With the cheese and the Pepperoni. Not with olives and onions and mushrooms. She then proceeds to say that the pizza up on the wall is for REGULAR size pepperoni. When you order small size, this is what it looks like. I am like BULLSHIT! I pointed to the combination pizza picture and said thats what you made.
She then proceeds to start pulling off the offending toppings and PUTS THEM BACK INTO THE INGREDIENT BINS. I am getting majorly angry right now and saying that aint gonna fucking cut it. Make me a new Pepperoni pizza. If anything it should be free because you fucked my order.
So they made me another pizza and at the end the ajuma looks at me saying "sorry sorry" but she didnt mean it and I sure as hell aint going back.
For the people that live in Hae Bong Chon, its the pizza place up from Phillies and opposite the PFCB.

I wonder if it's like the time I went in to Dominoes and when I ordered a Pepperoni & Cheese pizza (on the menu) he asked me if I wanted the cheese ON the pizza.
I looked at him and although he had minimal English I said 'No, you can just put the cheese in a bag like the pickes and I will put it on by myself...."
HE looked at me like and I just smiled.
He replied "Ma'am, uh, chee-juh, uhh, pee-cha,... OHN?" I smiled nicely. "Yes. Cheese, pizza ON" (gesturing with hands). He then went to get someone else with better English to confirm. We had the identical conversation. They talked for a while, agreed it was all ok. Rang up "Pepperoni Cheese Pizza" in the till and I paid.
My pizza arrived.
With no pepperoni. |

Ya know, some people may be able to eat that type of pizza, but I for one cannot eat anything with mushrooms. So shut your fucking mouth and be a bit more respectful.
All the guy was trying to do is let others know that this place isn't the best place to get and get a pie.

Koreans don't know pizza, that's a fact. The little local all Korean joints are universally tragic. Only the bigger chains come close to cutting the mustard and even then it's touch and go. |

People make mistakes, and when business is bad, they try to cut corners.
People are not perfect. I won't boycott the place. |

True. sweet potato and corn do not belong on a pizza. |

Back in Canada when you want a pepperoni pizza it's, like, a cave man thing with an inch of meat piled up under the cheese. Does anyone here know what I'm talking about here? There is a place called Nino's in the city I'm from, Saskatoon, and the pizzas are like that. They also deliver until three in the morning. All food producing places in Korea shut at what, nine pm.
I think it's that Korean people are on 'rural time', maybe. Then again it's western food places that close at nine pm, or ten. A 'chicken hof' goes later, right? Or there's the kimpab/chi-gae places that are open late, maybe mostly catering to taxi drivers, I don't know.
But back in Canada the pizza was loaded with enough meat to delight a tyranosaurus, and delivered until the middle of the night. If Korea is still on 'rural time' then Canadians still eat 'like farm hands'.
Gotta stop these cultural comparisons, especially about food. It's making me crave cave man, pepperoni pizza |

I've had that happen several times in Korea as well. I would specifically order a Pepporoni Pizza.. just exactly like the picture.. yet they would give me a supreme with everything.
I just changed pizza places. But no matter how specific I am with it.. it got messed up like that. No idea why. I didn't think I was the only one either. |

Well, if it makes you all feel any better, this has happened to us several times (and my Korean wife ordered).
Our solution?
Well, after finding a place that we liked (taste-wise), I had a little meeting with the manager and explained that I will be a loyal patron (weekly orders, you know, 'Monday-ish Night Football' and all), and my order will never change. So memorise our order.
So, everytime I would call, the pizzaria would know it was me and what to expect....it got to the point our phone chat would include:
<ring ring ring>
Lee, Seok-min's Pizza: Hello?
Ryst: Yes, it's Ryst
LSMP: Ah, hello!
Ryst: One pie please.
LSMP: Yes.
<20 minutes later, a perfect meat-lovers pizza with less than normal cheese and double pizza sauce at my doorstep>.
!Shoosh

I got that beat. Last year, through serious trial and error, I found an amazing, Mom and Pop pizza place near Jamsil. I started hitting it at least once a week and was their only non-korean customer.
I would be walking home and decide that I wanted a pizza...I'd call 'em up and the conversation was:
Best Pizza: "Best Pizza blah blah shish bloom blah"
Me: "Hello"
Best Pizza: Neeeeeeeh
20 minutes later my pizza would be at my door (bulgogi w/o corn) |

Well I was just saying how they ripped off toppings that had been cooked and threw them back in the ingredients bin...
So the lack of hygiene thing is what I was talking about. People making errors is universal, food hygiene is non negoiatable. |
