My students asked me today why are we on cloud 9, not cloud 10 or 8.......I had a look through some idiom sites, but I can't find an answer.
I had the same problem with 7th heaven.

Anybody out there care to venture a guess?

Took me about 6 seconds to go to the Google, type in "cloud 9", hit enter, and find this site:

My Bad, I typed in "idioms" and went through the list of sites that came up.
wordorigins.com etc.
