Line 4 heading north-east. It's the second last stop. I really like that neighborhood. A few shady hagwons out there though. Exercise caution.

Sanggye-dong is adjacent to the hagwon hot-spot, Junggye-dong, up in Nowon-gu. North-east Seoul.

Not a bad spot. I taught there for a year.

It's near the end of the light blue line. Follow it north of Hyehwa and keep going. Just one stop north of Nowon.

There are some nice grocery stores around here: carrefour, emart, lottemart, and homeplus. It's more modern than some areas but it's not like gangnam or bundang. It's a bit remote from most of the action but if you're close to the subway it's not a super pain to get where you want to go.

SangGye Dong/JungGye Dong is a mass of concrete and kids. Near a few nice mountains. I've been told (never saw the source) that the NowonGu area (which includes SangGye Dong) is one of the top ten most densely pouplated areas in the world. Again, I'm not sure if it's true, but having lived there for about 7 years I don't find it difficult to believe. Apartment complexes almost everywhere you look and new ones popping up all the time.

You would be about 45 minutes to an hour from the downtown area. As someone already mentioned there is some convenient shopping with Carrefour/Lotte Mart/2001/Lotte Department Store. There's also an Outback. The 3 block area in the center of JungGye Dong holds about 20 large English Hagwons. That's right, 20! So there are foreign teachers crawling all over the place. Even with all the hagwons it's not too difficult to pick-up privates if thats your thing.

If it's English Friends, I don't recommend it.

I know a couple of cool people that work there but most of the permanent staff seem a little two-faced, as is the boss, and beware paranoid hostile Korean staff. The kids are ok but, due to the bad atmosphere, there's a high turnover of staff, which means they hire anyone at all, which means they get a lot of freaky foreigners working there too.

You can do better than that.
