Get this... just priced up Norton Internet Security 2004 in three different places:
The US site for download W80000 give or take a bit
The UK site for download W100000 give or take a bit
and
The Korean site for download...
<drum roll>
W35000 give or take a bit
Now, seeing as you can download the manual in English from the US, there's no guessing which I'm buying.
Unbelievable discrepancies though... truly horrible.
... and I know the drawbacks of using NIS before anyone gets on my case. |

Yeah...that price diff is pretty nuts. Who woulda thunk it...cheap, authentic software in Korea.
But mate... Norton is really bloated software...perhaps effective, but a real system hog....then again, you did just get a gig of shiny, heavy RAM.
Getting separate progs for AV and firwall would consume less RAM and definately cheaper, as I will give it all to you.
Ok...I'm off your back...thanks...I needed that. |

Second that on Norton. Just don't do it. I just installed it on my dad's system back home because his computer was rampant with spyware and viruses. (I spent 3 days cleaning it up first.) Anyway, Norton will bring your system to it's knees if you do anything besides surf the internet. (It also doesn't like that either, it's default setting is not to allow Firefox access to the internet, but it is nice enough to allow you to change that.) |

Stupid of me to think that this thread would stay on topic despite my warning in the OP.
THundarr... it does beg the question then why you did in fact install it... |

I don't know, maybe it's because I lack the ability to see into the future? Do you think that just perhaps, maybe, it might be possible that I didn't know what a bloated piece of crap Norton was until after I'd installed it? Is that possible you think? |

Packages that I have tested are McAfee AV, Firewall, and Security Suite, Norton 2004, ZoneAlarm Security Suite, and PcCillin Internet Suite.
Norton stands in the "really sucks" category while McAfee is good all-round but a memory hog with a lot of compatibililty problems. PcCillin (Trend Micro) Internet Suite is okay but the firewall is really weak and when I uninstalled it, all traces of the program were not cleaned off my system, hence a start page flashes each time I boot for Trend Micro... ticks me off. Best overall goes to ZoneAlarm Security Suite with a very good AV scanner which does byte level scans and a pretty hefty firewal as well as script, popup, and other security related blockers included.

I just downloaded Norton off P2P and installed it. NOt knowing it would kill my system. SO I want to use something that won't slow me down soo much. Any advice? Thanks in advance.
