It's decision time. Is anybody familiar with these schools?
Kids Club near Yeouido, Central Seoul,
ELC (of the EWHA group), in Central Seoul (nearest subway is #2 green line, Munrae station)
Unless I hear appalling things from posters on Daves, I'll probably take one of these, in fact I will, I've put it off long enough and I suspect I may have been too picky in turning down other offers. Its time to just get it done and go over. I'm leaning towards the ELC school as the contract specs are more attractive (considering it will be my first year), 2 mil won, no saturdays, teaching hours are 2:30 - 8:30, elementary to middle students, severence, R/T flight, single accomodation etc.
Whaddaya think?
Thanks for your help,
Jordo |

Sorry for my lack of typing skills but the title was supposed to be advice on "Schools" not Sc which means nothing. And I couldn't find their info in any search.
Thanks again |

You are very apologetic - it seems you have read many of the flaming responses people give you when you ask the wrong thing
The only other thing you can do is run a search for blacklists - they are tons of them. Look those over. If you don't find anything there you can only cross your fingers. Also, you may want to speak with a current teacher at the school. |

May? Actually, that should be reversed. You may want to look at the blacklists, but take those with a grain of salt, cuz this is the internet. Not to mention that a popular blacklist was exposed as being fraudulent, last year.
I would say, absolutely positively talk to, at least, one current teacher and one past teacher that worked there. And do that over the phone, where you can interact and get a better feel for their testimonial, as opposed to entrusting the written word, which often misses the full impact of the speaker's opinion. |

| No Sh*t! I thought the same thing the millisecond after I posted that second part. Why should I care? I searched blacklists on Hagwon.com but found nothing on this school in Seoul. |

| In all jobs that I've been offered I have made a point to talk to current teachers (and I really grilled them) to get some info. I even refused to continue an interview with a lady because she insisted that there was no way she could get a teacher to speak with me, even when I suggested that they call me at a time convenient to THEM (I offered to stay up till 1:30 in the morning just to talk, even on a later date, but nooooo!) |

That's bullshit, on the school's end. If a school refuses to let you talk to the current and/or past teacher, for any reason, take a pass, without hesitation. Drop everything and get the *beep* out of there.
I was recruiting for a school one time, and I wanted to get phone numbers of current and past teachers for some prospective teachers that I was pitching to. The director declined, because she was worried about what the current teachers might say.
I told her to find another fucking clown to find teachers for her. And pick up any book on how to run a fucking business. |

| Believe me dude (if you are a dude, if not I apologize) I politely ended the interview. I've been wanting to go to Korea for 2 years now, only having been delayed in order to finish university. There is no way I'm going to enter a contract blind. |
